BBC Radio Lancashire Interview
On Tuesday, Cllr Paul Cox, Cabinet member for Hyndburn council’s Environmental Services, was interviewed on BBC Radio Lancashire, in recognition of Hyndburn’s improvements in the Food Standards Agency food hygiene scores.
To listen to the interview, tune in at 2:12:50 at: https://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/play/p06j7686
... Cllr Cox said: “In the last few years we’ve taken significant strides to improve food hygiene performance and added additional resources to drive up compliance, such as Project Boost. This has included a series of workshops attended by 88 businesses and carried out 30 one to one coaching sessions.
We also took action against non-compliant premises which resulted in 5 voluntary closures. We also served 21 premises with Food Hygiene Improvement Notices and issued 301 written warnings.
Ultimately, as an authority we cannot force establishments to raise their food hygiene scores, but what we can be is proactive in is both keeping in contact with premises and outlining the benefits of improving their business image with an increased score.”

Make sure your views are heard!
Hyndburn Borough Council will soon carry out a review on Public Space Protection Orders and they’re asking for your views.
Cllr Gareth Molineux said: “The orders legislate where dogs need to be on leads and any areas of the Borough where dogs are excluded. Currently dogs are excluded from children’s playgrounds and bowling green areas and this has really benefitted users of those facilities. Dog owners are also required to keep their dogs on ...leads in cemeteries and town centres.”
“Please get involved when the consultation starts, it will be available on the Council’s website soon.”

Like many of us I’ve been out and about with my family over the summer holidays making the most of the glorious sunshine - walking, cycling and picnicking in Hyndburn’s fabulous parks and open spaces, eight of which were awarded the prestigious Green Flag this year.
It’s also great to see the transformation of historic Rhyddings Park in Oswaldtwistle now completed, with lots of visitors...

Over 8000 people flocked to #AmazingAccrington on Saturday 1st September for the town’s first ever Town Takeover across the three events.
Accrington’s new Town Square, The Ballroom at Accrington Town Hall and Accrington and Rossendale College were all alive with a flurry of fun and excitement as a Chocolate Festival, Soapbox Challenge and Rally Challenge took place.
Miles Parkinson, Leader of Hyndburn Borough Council said:
... “Wow, what a day! This was a true Town Takeover with attractions and stalls based in different locations all over the town on the day. The live rally demonstrations were completely mind blowing and what a buzz they created up at the college! There was so much to offer, something for everyone to enjoy but for me the Soapbox Challenge was the best new attraction. I’m already looking forward to seeing what comes of the event next year!”

ACCRINGTON MARKET STALL CHARGES FROZEN OR REDUCED
The council has frozen or reduced most charges paid by traders for indoor and outdoor stalls at Accrington Markets. The lower charges will be implemented at the beginning of October.
Indoor Market Hall traders will see their rents reduced by 10.5% on 1st October 2018 and reduce again by 2.9% on the 1st of October 2019. The overall 13.4% reduction means a typical monthly charge will decrease by almost £88 per calendar month.
... The vast majority of outside stall charges have also been reduced or frozen.
Councillor Clare Cleary, Cabinet Member for Accrington town centre, said: “The Council is fully committed to Accrington’s indoor and outdoor markets, and, having carried out a comprehensive review, and recognising the trading challenges facing some of our tenants, we have either frozen or reduced the charges paid where at all possible."
Cllr Cleary added: “This reaffirms our commitment to making the Markets a key shopping and food offer that forms part of our long term vision for Accrington town centre. This is a really exciting time for Accrington town centre and with the imminent completion of the new town square, with many events planned for the future; we are expecting our Market traders to benefit from an increase in footfall.”
