Exploring the exciting new garden space
The babies and toddlers are getting used to the new garden space. The children are encouraged by the staff to use their physical skills to run, jump and slide.

Spaghetti Play
The younger children are experiencing using different materials during their exploratory play. Cooked spaghetti allows the children to use their fine motor skills to pick up, squash and manipulate the spaghetti. The staff encouraged the older children to use language such as soft, cold, squash.

Science Week:
Bug Hotel - The Pre-school 1 and 2 completed the Bug Hotel challenge. As the week progressed they have been checking to see if any new bugs have made their bug hotels their new homes!

Science Week experiments and exploration:
Pre-school 1 children used various different ways to release the objects from the ice. They safely used knives, forks, spoons and warm water. They discussed why the ice was hard and what would happen if they poured the warm water over the ice.

For British Science Week Pre-school have completed a range of different experiments. This afternoon they have watched what happens when you put mints into liquids and what happens to coloured sweets when they are put into water. The children discussed and described the changes that took place, in particular the changes in colours. The children also helped the staff to make a bug hotel, this has been placed in the mud area in the garden. Over the next few days the staff and children will look to see if any new bugs have moved in. Keep an eye out for other experiments the children (and staff) are completing.

Caring for our teeth
In the nursery room the children have been talking about our teeth and the importance of cleaning them. They have been using toothbrushes and toothpaste to practise cleaning their teeth at nursery, through pictures and bringing in their own from home. The children were all encouraged to apply the toothpaste to the brushes themselves.

In preparation for our Thursday ‘Elmer’ theme, for World Book Day, the pre-school staff are busy preparing small world activities. The children will be looking at each other to see what makes them different, as in the Elmer story, and recording their findings
