Lomond School

About Lomond School

With a unique setting in the scenic coastal town of Helensburgh on the edge of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, Lomond School is the West of Scotland's only day and boarding school.

Lomond School Description

Lomond has an inclusive ethos that aims high in all aspects, encouraging pupils of all abilities to achieve to the best of their ability. All aspects of development are accorded importance, be they academic, musical, dramatic, sporting or in wider outdoor activities.

Lomond has a wide awareness of the importance of international links, maintaining a diverse community with active school partnerships abroad in South Africa, Germany and China.

Good manners, a hard working approach to life and a strong community feel are all values that are closely held at Lomond. We are an all through school with pupils from 3 to 18 years of age and the school adopts a close awareness of the individual and his or her strengths.

The wider family plays a strong part in school life and we are very keen on the role parents can play in the school. Both boarding and day pupils have a close integration and Lomond enjoys its position as the only boarding school on the West Coast of Scotland.

Our pupils go on to add great value in their time at school and gain the places of their choice at university. We welcome visits to the school and are always happy to offer a sample of school life to new pupils.

Some of our S1 pupils enjoyed a trip to the Science Centre today as part of their studies on Space and Marine Life. They watched the Under the Sea 3-D movie as well as the Solar System and Beyond show at the Planetarium. The pupils also enjoyed the Science Mall exhibits. Looks like everyone had great fun!

Years 6 and 7 in our Junior School provide focused preparation for the experience of Senior School.
Located in the Senior School building with a dedicated Primary Teacher, our Transitus pupils also have input from subject specialists. By the time our Transitus pupils are ready to move onto Senior School, they are known by many of the teaching staff; have existing knowledge of the subjects studied in Senior 1; are familiar with Senior pupils; and confident in their surroundings. Pupils who complete our Transitus years move onto Senior 1 with ease, excited about their journey ahead.
Join us on Tuesday 14 May to find out more about what we offer in Transitus and have an informal chat with staff. To confirm your place, please contact us on events@lomondschool.com

It's the summer term which means for our J1 and J2 classes, it's all about the start of their Clarendon Rangers programme.
So far, they've been to Lunderston Bay in Gourock to do some rock pooling with the Rangers from Muirshiel park where they found star fish, butter fish, hermit crabs and lots more! Then they were off to the Greenock Cut for pond dipping and the highlight of the day was finding newts! πŸ¦€πŸŸ They've also been to Townhead Farm too! πŸ„πŸ‘
Their trip also highlight...ed the ongoing issue of the disposal of plastic waste with the pupils finding 130 cotton buds in a 2 minute search on the tide line. πŸ˜”

Artwork of the Week last week was from Luke S. in S5
Luke is doing his Higher Photography Project on Townhead Farm in Helensburgh, looking at different aspects of this busy working environment. He took various photos of these curious chickens and managed to capture the pompous personality of this particular bird from an unusual angle. We've included a montage of some of his other shots as well.
Great work Luke πŸ‘
