Yet another low mileage 1.6 TF exploding clutch. It's still sort of worked with alot of noise and a bit grabby. The only real challenge was the tight space I had to work in otherwise an enjoyable job this morning.

User

Just bought this and got it home, an interesting drive from Bromley with no clutch. Now where do I start and get ready for picture taking overload as I do all sorts of jobs.

User

Has anyone ever had their MGTF wrapped, im buying one tomorrow and im going to do some crazy stuff with it.

User

Its funny but its true, you don't do a particular job for months and then, bam, two cars different locations on the same day suffering with the same problem, you will note that in the first 2 pictures the Track rod ends although have spilt gators look relatively new apposed to picture 3 and that track rod end has seen better days. Anyway just a small job to keep my mind working on a Saturday morning. I promise i will have nothing to share tomorrow. Im having a day off. Have a great Sunday everyone.

Today's visit was to Mr MG exhaust noise, Neil Willetts, Neil was telling me he has owned this very well kept F from new. Today's mission, was replace the cam belt and tensioner, alternator belt in preparation for a trip to Strasbourg, France in a few weeks time. While I was there, one of Neil's TT Mk 7 exhausts fell into my van, I will take some pictures and come up with a fully fitted price if anyone is in the market for a new exhaust with noise. Great to see you today Neil and thanks for the work on Red19

Stories like this make me angry and a little sad. This low mileage, great condition Rover 25 was giving the elderly lady owner problems. She had an intermittent warning light coming on and heaters blowing cold air. She called her garage to be told it's her alternator and don't drive the car get it recovered because the battery will go flat and car will stop. The lady called recovery and when arrived the light was out and no problem could be found she drove home, next day wa...rning light on so she took it to her garage whom fitted a new alternator for £225, the next morning the warning light was on again, eventually someone noticed the warning light was in fact the low coolant warning light. The garage advised her to sell it and stop spending money on it after, fitting a new thermostat at £100. She took their advise and looked at replacing the car she loves, she was offered £100 trade in. She talked it over with her son, that luckily years ago had used me and told his mum give me call. With a weeping inlet manifold gasket the reason she was loosing coolant and a failed Saab valve the reason she had no heat. Both issues sorted she can love her car again. I would also suggest it never needed an alternator.

Following my visit to Shrewsbury on Thursday and where my customer had been told her head gasket had failed, which hadn't. She was expecting and fully prepared to pay for the worst. It was a 3 hour drive for me and I know people that would have done the job anyway, she would have never have been any wiser. But that's what they do not me. I state my clame for not only being the first mobile mechanic offering head gasket repairs on MG's and Rovers in the country but arguably still the best. I might not be the cheapest, but I've once been shopping in Poundland and I can't recommend it. It's private messages like this that makes me smile and keeps me doing what I do.

Cornwall on Monday, Shrewsbury tomorrow and Stoke-on-Trent on Friday, all packed and ready for an early start, alarm set for 4.30. Love a road trip and tomorrow not knowing what to find until I get there. I did like the phone call from tomorrows new customer, and I quote " I've heard and read such about you I have to have only you come and fix my car". I can.do that.

User

Boom, always gets interesting when this happens.

A picture of yesterday's clutch job down in Cornwall.

It was a long way, but when a new customer requires my service after being recommended by a long standing customer and friend I was more than happy to help. The job, a replacement clutch, my customer Robert, he makes a good bacon sandwich and coffee. Back home getting ready for tomorrows MG adventure.

I forget how many times I've warned people, not to ignore alternator belts, if you do and this happens, there isn't a simple cheap fix. Alternator belts cost about £8 and take 15 minutes to fit. This mess caused by a failed alternator belt getting trapped and wrapped around the crankshaft pulley, eventually lifting the cam belt needs as a minimum, a replacement engine.
