At Middleport Pottery we've seen, and will continue to see the legacy of this superb programme - a new wave of interest in those wanting to throw a pot and play-with-clay.
It's with great pride that the Great Pottery Throw Down was filmed in Stoke-on-Trent, the capital of ceramics. Our beautiful pottery became a star of the show, its famous facade now recognised across the world (ask our volunteers!).
Thank you GPTD - there's little doubt you'll be responsible for the next Kate or Keith in years to come.

What an absolute gem of a place. Visited today for the clay play and Halloween trail. The staff were so helpful - especially the man greeting (the one who made the ‘bug hut’), he was so enthusiastic and kind!

Our only gripe was a very rude lady working in the tea rooms, she was so sharp and unhelpful when we asked for anything - definitely needs a customer service course!

A lovely place, we will definitely return for the Christmas activities!

User

What a gem of a place. Visited today for the play with clay session. Very busy but well organised and brilliant value for money.

Everyone we spoke to today was helpful, friendly and enthusiastic.

We had a lovely lunch in the tea room and spent a good half hour doing the Halloween trail. I would highly recommend this gem. Can't wait to visit at Christmas - the festive program looks amazing xx

User

We’ve visited for a factory tour today. It was amazing. Tony our guide was so knowledgable and made the visit perfect. We had a lovely lunch in the cafe. A perfect day and we will come back again. Thanks :)

User

Went to the play with clay workshop yesterday with two little ones, had a fantastic couple of hours, well organised and the kids had great fun for the £3 fee, amazing value and will definitely be going again

User

Went on Sunday. I'm a full time wheelchair user and could not believe how much of it's accessible now that 7 million pounds has been invested. I really thought I'd be doing a very 'compromised' version of the tour. But with the exception of the bath house, I can get everywhere! Most impressive was the lift up the front steps to the information desk. I was asked to park my chair on what I thought were just the stone flags covering the rest of the yard. It was only when the very nice gentleman fastened safety chains in front of and behind me, that I became puzzled. Next, he pressed some buttons in a panel in the door frame I hadn't even seen, and I and the 'floor' started to elevate, until we were level with the door. Subtle smooth and aesthetically seamless. I actually remarked that if you can achieve this level of historically sympathetic assistive technology, then no other businesses have an excuse any more. This and the generous distribution of disabled toilets made it a very enjoyable visit. Thank you. X

User

We visited the Halloween clay and play session with a 4 and nearly 7 year old today. As we had heard yesterday was a bit 'busy' we got there for 11:30 and got in pretty much straight away.

We were seated in the over spill room.

The activity is free play. You get given your clay and away you go. For children like mine with great imaginations we had a great 90 minute session. We had to venture to other tables to top up on supplies as our table wasn't set out with all decorative goodies like the others were (perhaps down to the fact staff were adding tables to meet demand).

A lovely little art session. Recommend to all. Best bit is I don't have to clean up after.

User

We have just returned from a fantastic morning looking around the middle port pottery. It is an excellent place to visit and the staff are so welcoming and knowledgeable. We will definitely be back to do the factory tour and to see the poppies in August.

I am ashamed to say we only live a few miles away and that was our first visit, what a gem we have on our doorstep.

Thanks to all.

User

We had a great time with clay yesterday and the food in the cafe was great. Highly recommended

User

Visited today with my husband and 2 teens, for the Craftmanship Festival, we all had a great time, love this place

User

Really interesting afternoon out at a traditional pottery. Shame it was factory holiday fortnight so there were no tours of the current process. Heritage tour was good though. Lovely tearoom, good prices and wide range of food. Really friendly staff. Loads of parking.

User

Lovely afternoon out my 2 yeah old absolutely loved the play with clay and secretly we did too. Excellent friendly staff can't wait to back!!!

User

I went to the tea rooms yesterday with around 10 friends / family members for afternoon tea , absolutely beautiful , good service pleasant surroundings .. we were giving the upstairs all to ourselves perfect ..

Definitely be back to visit the museum part and the tea rooms very soon .. lovely outside sitting area aswell ..

Come on Stoke on Trent city council let's have some sign posts for this place.

Not one of us had visited before and we're all local , unsure of location thankful my daughter works in the tea rooms and gave us directions ..

Fantastic family place

User

I went to Middleport Pottery yesterday with friends and spent a few wonderful hours enjoying the Heritage and also Factory tour (everything being done by hand) with the lovely guide Jan Ward and also two lovely gentlemen - apologies for no names - who showed us around the offices, explained the bottle oven before it was our tour time. It really is a brilliant place to go to and understand the history and present day of the Pottery Industry. A working factory for you to walk around. The cafe was excellent. Food lovely (soups, oatcakes, jackets, good quality drinks). There is a newly acquired narrow boat too and they continue to discover more.

Can’t recommend it all highly enough.

Go along and support them all. Very well worth it.

Thank you

Fantastic afternoon spent here for my Mums birthday. All the staff were friendly and welcoming. Firstly Jan for showing us where to go and explaining the start of the company and then a special thank you to Tim for showing us round and explaining the history.

User

A lovely range of artisan shops from hand crafted wooden furniture to glass crafts and pottery. The museum walks you through the history of Middleport and the pottery industry, offering a window into the past. Pottery classes available, a beautiful rustic cafe onsite to refresh visitors and an events hall on the first floor. I have visited Middleport a few times now and really love the atmosphere and the variety of events they host. Well worth a visit.

User

First visit today went for coffee with a friend ended up having a cooked breakfast couldn't fault it, it was very good and the pot of tea had 3 cups of tea in it really good value . Having worked on many potbanks I thought the way they had transformed it was fantastic It had a modern feel but had not lost that feeling of being in a pottery when they we're a thriving business loved the white washed walls with the willow pattern drawn on it it brought b'day many happy memories . It felt like stepping back in time .

User

Went to throw a pot in August September time. Said I would get a phone call when I could of come and collected the pots. No phone call yet. Phoned up and they said the guy who runs it would be in touch but to no avail. Shame really would of gone back.
