About Needles Nci
Needles NCI is an entirely voluntary organisation that keeps watch from the Needles coastguard station 365 days of the year.
Needles Nci Description
Working from the coastguard station at The Needles on the Isle of Wight, Needles NCI volunteers keep watch. We seek to support all users of the sea and coast who might be in trouble - walkers, kayakers, sailors, fishing boats. We also watch for debris in the water that might cause harm to those on the water. Accidents can happen to anyone.
Our service is completely voluntary. We need your donations to help us pay for training and day-to-day expenses and equipment.
We are always looking for volunteer Watchkeepers! You need to be able to get to The Needles a minimum of one watch a fortnight (0900-1300 or 1300-1700) and be able to climb the 4m ladder into the lookout room. Full training is provided. Training includes radio, chart work, spotting with binoculars and scope, and emergency procedures.
The coastguard (MCA) coordinate all rescues; our role is to be the local spotter-support for helicopters, lifeboat or Needles land-based coastguard.

Good-evening. I have now worked my way through todays images of the Princess Royals visit. Tonight it is a general selection of images tomorrow I hope to add those I took at the formal presentations.
Arrived a little early for the big event to get a feel of the layout and angles. Just downloaded the images and I couldn't resist this one taken before it all started. The expressions says, 'I've just trodden on your foot'. With apologies to the 'actors'. More of the real event will follow in due course.
Rubbed, Scrubbed, Painted and dressed overall ready for our Royal Patron.
I've never noticed the thumbs up before

With all the seal and dolphin activity around the Island at the moment I thought it a good idea to advertise this course again as it's only next month. The Isle of Wight Branch of British Divers Marine Life Rescue are running a Marine Mammal Medic Course on September 16th at Yaverland Sailing Club. You don't have to be a diver to take part, but you must be over 16. Please see details on poster. If you are interested all you have to do is book either on line www.bdmlr.org.uk/index.php?page=training- course or phone BDMLR during office hours on 01825 765546.
