About Nuart Aberdeen

Brought to you by the team behind Stavanger’s internationally renowned Nuart Festival, the award-winning Nuart Aberdeen returns to the Granite city this April.

Nuart Aberdeen Description

Brought to you by the team behind Stavanger’s internationally renowned Nuart Festival and developed in collaboration with Aberdeen Inspired and Aberdeen City Council, Nuart Aberdeen will provide a platform for local, national and international artists to showcase their work through a series of site-specific murals, installations, interventions, and temporary exhibitions.

The festival takes place from Friday 14 – Sunday 16 April (Easter Weekend) and will be supplemented by a program of talks, presentations, film screenings, walking tours and workshops over three days.

In Aberdeen’s year of ‘History, Heritage and Archaeology’, Nuart Aberdeen seeks to reveal how Street Art can create an environment for a more imaginative use of public space, something Nuart has been dedicated to realising since its inception in 2001.

Get lost in your own city. Javier Abarca's Aberdeen is probably very dfferent from the one you're used to. The routes are based on the subjective vision of the environment advocated in situationist writings and turned into everyday experience by graffiti writers and urban explorers. Each tour traverses a parallel city free from the control of capital and oblivious to its predictable spaces of production, transport or consumption. A city where anything can happen.

Here's hoping we get blue skies and sunny days again soon because Aberdeen really sparkles when the suns out! Here's m-city.org hard at work on his piece for Nuart Aberdeen in 2017. M painted two pieces in 4 days side by side next to Bon Accord Aberdeen and it's still looking fresh.

Imaginary City (Premiere) 24 min | UA 2019 Friday 19th April :14:15–15:00 Documentary and Q&A with filmmaker Kristina Borhes of MZM Projects (UA)
Imaginary City is a poetic visual essay which traverses the history of Nuart Festival as a way to explore the magical ability of street art to change our ways of seeing the city, and the stories that we tell ourselves.

What a joy to walk round the city today & seeing so many other people enjoying & discovering all the street art. So much work has gone into it this year!!

User

We had a fantastic guided tour around Aberdeen today looking at all the amazing artworks! Absolutely stunning..and so interesting. The work has really given Aberdeen some much needed colour and it was great to see how well supported the event was too! Well done to all involved..it's definitely getting Aberdeen talking

User

Was on the tour today and would recommend anybody to do this and see a different side of Aberdeen

User

Took one of the guided walks today with my wife and youngest daughter - loved it! Really gets you looking beyond street level and the murals bring some life and originality which the city now lacks.

User

This week has been great watching all these artworks unfold, looking forward to visiting them all and great to see a lasting impact on the city. The first of many I hope. Well done to all involved.

User

This was a fantastic day out. Well done Aberdeen on having something different, interesting and inspiring every month! Good job I have already painted a door as a chalk board, one wee man has been inspired! Fantastic street art!

This festival has given ordinary people a chance to see extraordinary art in ordinary places. I was aware of some of the pieces from walking around the city myself but the walking tour revealed several outstanding works that I was completely unaware of despite having passed them several times without realising. I am not from the North East but I am always confused by how willing residents local and non-local are to put the area down. There is a lot of talent up here and Nuart is doing a brilliant job of drawing attention to it and bringing in visiting artists. I recommend a tour highly to anyone with an interest in art.

User

So much hard work and organisation went into this event. I just wanted to say Thank you all so much for making Aberdeen a beautiful place to walk around. You are an amazing bunch of artists . Please say the art work is here to stay xx

User

My boyfriend and I did a Nuart walking tour today and absolutely loved it! We had no idea all this incredible street art was on our door step. The fact that we could access a FREE guided tour is amazing. John our tour guide was brilliant at bringing the art to life and really felt like we saw the city in a whole new light. Thanks NuArt Aberdeen, 10/10 recommend!

User

Lovely afternoon finding all the artwork. Took us into parts of Aberdeen we wouldn't normally head into. Our 7 year old also loved finding all the little figures. Was great seeing lots of people out and about, Aberdeen has needed something like this for a long time.

User

It looks fantastic! Great to see Aberdeen brightened up a bit & looking more cosmopolitan & cultural.More please!

User

It is amazing festival, again.

We went to see it in 2017 and wet back this year. Our family absolutely love it.

We went for guided tour on Sat. 14th April. It was awesome to walk around Aberdeen and discover those absolutely outstanding works of art and learn the philosophy behind of it as well as learn a little bit about artists. My 2 kids absolutely love it. The guide was really good as well. He was friendly, honest and delivering very interesting talks. We had amazing time. Thank you all

User

Best thing Aberdeen has ever done..Well done to all the talented artists who brought us this feast for the eyes. You brought a community together and got us all talking to one another ..

Thank you xx

User

Amazing!! As an artist and photographer and never quite feeling Aberdeen has anything to offer creatively compared to Glasgow or Edinburgh I am so happy to see NUART coming to Aberdeen. I volunteered to help and met some really awesome people. Watched and spoke to the artists and it was good to see people out and about looking for the art pieces. I hope this becomes an annual thing and is given the funding needed. Aberdeen could be so much better so hopefully this is the start :) Keep up the magic work everyone :)

User

Amazing! excellent! People are walking and looking for murals ;-) It's very exciting ! All is smiling and talking about it. Well done!
