Today, our Deputy Shop Manager Emma had the chance to look around Oxfam Wastesaver in Batley, Yorkshire! Time for a new #volunteertakeoverthursday and this week it’s all about Michael!
Michael has been volunteering at Oxfam for around 3/4 years. His favourite thing about volunteering at Oxfam is making friends, meeting new people and gaining retail experience. We asked Michael “what was the most unusual item you’ve seen donated to Oxfam?” He said: “There was a book with £80 in it, there were four £20 notes used as bookmarks within the book!” 💷💷... 💚💚💚 #oxfamnorwich #foundinoxfam #volunteering #spreadhappiness #meettheteam

It’s time for another #volunteertakeoverthursday !! Introducing, Wendy! It’s coming up to Wendy’s one year anniversary of volunteering at Oxfam and you can usually find her sorting out all of the jewellery and accessories in the shop. Most recently, you may have seen our new window display that was merchandised by her (it’s on a previous post, check it out!!) We asked Wendy: “what’s the most unusual item you’ve seen donated to Oxfam?” She said: “We found a weird voodoo charm in the bottom of a jar, and no one knew what it was. We later found out it was some sort of ‘bad luck charm’ and so I was afraid to touch it or throw it out for weeks!” 💚💚💚

This week we’d like you to meet Ruby. She started volunteering at Magdalen Street just before Christmas and helps out with our social media pages. We asked Ruby: “what would you say to someone considering volunteering at Oxfam?” She said: “It’s a wonderful opportunity to gain new skills, experience new things and the most important reason is to meet like-minded, wonderful people there. At the end of my first s...hift there, I came away feeling really grateful that I could volunteer my help for the store, community and to help end poverty.”
