Heart week ❀️
We hope you have found our posts helpful over the course of this week.
As you can see, heart disease can affect dogs of any breed or age, and often it is hard to spot.
... Regular heart check-ups mean we can detect any changes to your dog’s heart and pick up the disease earlier, before symptoms develop so you can give them as long and as happy a life as possible.
At Priory Veterinary Group we are fortunate to have Jess Roose MA VetMB PgC(SAC) MRCVS who completed her post graduate certificate in small animal cardiology in 2017 and now, as well as treating Priory patients, is taking on referral cases from local practices 🐾
Referring vets can find the submission form for this on our website: https://prioryvetgroup.com/cardiology/

Heart week ❀️
Some large and giant breeds such as Dobermans, Great Danes and Irish Wolfhounds are at risk of developing a heart disease called dilated cardiomyopathy, or DCM for short.
The good news is that we can perform a simple heart screening test to help pick up the disease earlier, before symptoms develop which could help prolong your dog’s quality of life.

Did you know that small breed dogs such as Miniature Schnauzers, Miniature Poodles, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and Terriers are at a higher risk than other breeds of developing a type of heart disease called mitral valve disease, or MVD for short?
By diagnosing MVD early, before symptoms develop, we can manage the disease, slow progression and help maintain your dog’s quality of life.

On this day in 1997 we officially changed our name to Priory Veterinary Group πŸΎπŸ’š
We used to be known as 'Strang and Pocock' and then 'Strang and Partners' but after Mr Strang retired, it was decided that we would create a name for ourselves that wouldn't change depending on the management team.
And so Priory Veterinary Group was born and 23 years on this name is fondly known around Dorset and Hampshire 😊
... We found this newspaper stashed away at the practice where we announced this news on February 8th 1997!
We feel very fortunate to have clients that have been coming to us for even longer than 23 years!
Thank you to all our wonderful clients for the continued support ✨

We would like to say a HUGE thank you to all the lovely clients and patients who brought us in gifts over the Christmas period ✨
We all love our jobs so much and it makes it extra special to receive such kind and thoughtful gifts from you all.
On Christmas Eve we were able to share out the chocolates, wine and sweets among our staff so that everybody had something to take home for Christmas!
... As you may know, last year we made a pledge to start being more environmentally friendly and reduce our plastic and paper waste. So this year individual cards will not be sent out to keep our promise, but we wanted you all to know just how much we really do appreciate this!! πŸ’šπŸ˜Š

Today is National Fun at Work Day! πŸŽ‰
We know, there is a national day for everything these days!
But this one seems like something that we can all get on board with, you spend a huge portion of your life at work so its important to enjoy yourself when you can ☺️
... In the veterinary industry we bear witness to a lot of sadness and statistics show that our line of work carries high levels of depression and anxiety.
So today we want to reflect on the parts of our jobs that we really LOVE! πŸ’š
1) Waggy tails. 2) When we get that super cute 'prrbbttt' noise from a cat. 3) Obviously, puppies and kittens! 4) When we see animals reunited with their owners. 5) Happy clients. 6) When we diagnose a condition and we can cure it. 7) Watching our patients improve on medications. 8) Seeing patients take their first steps after orthopaedic surgery. 9) Happy animals. 10) Working in a team that is truly one big family and knowing we are all here to offer each other support!
What part of your job do you have fun/love doing?

Independently owned Priory 🐢🐱🐰🐹
You hear us talking about being independent a lot! This is because we are extremely proud to be able to say this.
Alongside the traditional veterinarian owned practices, It has become common for non vet owned corporations to buy into the running of veterinary practices.
... Now, as it stands, Priory Veterinary Group are the only independently owned mixed practice offering 24 hour care, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, in the local area.
Being an independent veterinarian owned practice means we are in complete control of what we offer to you and the services we provide πŸ’š

The difference between a Vet and a Nurse πŸ’šπŸΎ
Two careers that couldn't live without one another but that differ in many ways.
The main difference to point out between a Vet and a Nurse is this :
... 🚨Vets are the ONLY people legally allowed to diagnose and prescribe!!🚨
This means that if your pet is booked in for a general nurse clinic appointment, the Nurse will not be able to diagnose any extra issues that you may bring up during that time. They will however, always endeavour to either ask the advice of a Vet or book you in for a Vet consultation.
Nurses carry out a lot of tasks behind the scenes under instruction and direction from the Vet.
These include;
Blood sampling Intravenous and central line placement Anaesthesia X-ray imaging Dental scale and polish Minor surgical procedures Blood pressure reading ECG monitoring Nerve blocks
We all work as part of a big team at Priory and hope you can feel assured that every pet is treated as if it was our own 😊

Did you know ....
The Guinness World Record for the oldest dog breed is held by the Saluki! πŸ€“
The breed dates back to 329BC and were kept as royal pets in Ancient Egypt.
... Reportedly, there are also carvings found in Southern Iraq of a dog that looks similar to a Saluki which dates back to 7000BC.

*** CONGRATULATIONS ALIIE!! ***πŸŽ‰πŸŽˆ
Aliie has passed her final vet nursing exams and is now a fully qualified veterinary nurse! This is a fantastic achievement involving years of study, gathering cases and learning while also working.
Aliie has had a particularly hard path to get here because she also has MS which means that as well as studying, she has to contend with fatigue, chronic pain and a variety of other problems every day.
... We are very proud of Aliie for achieving her goal and qualifying, she is an excellent nurse, and we celebrated her achievements yesterday with a delicious vegan spread!
