About Radical Sportscars

Radical Sportscars is the world leading manufacturer of Sportscars with its headquarters in Peterborough, UK.

Radical Sportscars Description

HISTORY & MILESTONES

2, 000 cars.
You don’t sell that many sports racing cars in two decades unless the package is thrilling, dramatic, huge fun to drive and excellent value for money.
Equally you’re not truly Radical unless you offer something innovative and unique, both values that have always been at the core of our philosophy. From the very beginning our approach has always been to create a whole new niche in the world of motorsport, to which Nothing Compares.
Our original brief 20 years ago? A lightweight sportscar that utilised superbike technology. Faster than a supercar, totally driver focused and intensely rewarding to drive, Radical was the first company to create a bespoke powertrain system for a superbike-powered sports racer. The cars were built not just for the discerning club racer but trackday enthusiasts too, and both types of driver enjoy unmatched levels of support as well as having the fastest cars on track.
But the Radical philosophy extends much wider than just the cars. By launching our own race championships we became the first manufacturer to bring long-format, doubleheader endurance racing to the club racer, and provided na comprehensive spares and technical support team at every event that continues to this day.
The iconic Clubsport model established the company in 1997, and it is still raced with enthusiasm all around the world. Its success was instantaneous and the full grids soon led to developments, the Prosport adding wings, more power and wider slicks, but the team at Radical were never going to rest on their ever-growing laurels. In 2002 they launched the SR3, a genuine two-seater, road-legal track car, that wowed both the press and track drivers all over the world. It has become Radical’s most popular model to date and was soon followed by the compact SR4, a small, light and practical two-seater that proved to be the perfect successor to the original Clubsport.
The awesome SR8, launched in 2005 and powered by the high-revving, 380bhp Powertec RPV8 engine, brought Le Mans Prototype pace to the national racing scene. The mighty RPE RPV8 was designed, developed and manufactured in-house, and the car now holds several circuit out-right lap records, including the highly sought prize of the production car record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The latest-generation 2. 7-litre engine sets lap times comparable to LMP machinery on a fraction of the budget, and continues to draw acclaim for established endurance racers the world over.
In 2011 Radical took the bold step of developing its first fully EC Type Approved, street-legal roadster the SR3 SL. Powered by a turbocharged Ford EcoBoost four-cylinder engine it opened up Radical ownership to a whole new market, rapidly establishing itself in countries such as Switzerland, Germany and Japan. Technology and processes developed in the design of the SR3 SL have since enabled Radical to create a ‘milestone’ car; the new RXC. With the EcoBoost-powered RXC Turbo unveiled as Radical’s new flagship model in January 2014 this is one automotive success story that shows no signs of fading. At the opposite end of the model spectrum, the SR1 Cup racecar and championship model continues to bring new racers into the sport, providing them with the skills to succeed in the highly-competitive motorsport arena.
Radical set out to create a new niche in the sportscar scene offering drivers incredible performance for a realistic price, and their success is born out in the sales figures. As we enter our third decade with a fresh brand perspective, high-performance range and thrilling championship portfolio, over 2, 000 Radical owners can’t be wrong.

Steve Burgess delivered a stellar last-lap charge in Radical Challenge qualifying, to secure an all-important pole position start for the penultimate round of the season at Rockingham this morning.
A single point separates Burgess and RAW Motorsport teammate Dominik Jackson and the closeness of this year’s title fight was once again evident with the pair trading top times from the off. Jackson initially took the upper hand, managing to punch in one more fast lap before a safe...ty car broke up the session.
Back to green with just over 10 mins remaining, Burgess chipped away at Jackson’s top time to close within 0.129, but waited until the closing seconds of the session to post a final flyer and secure pole by 0.294 seconds, with a time of 1:17.903.
Outgoing Radical SR1 Cup Champion Jerome de Sadeleer, who took a clean-sweep in the formula here last year, clocked in third fastest ahead of Elliot Goodman. Brian Caudwell snatched fifth fastest by a mere 0.002 seconds from Richard Baxter.

County Derry driver Gerard O'Connell scooped his first Millers Oils Northern Ireland Hillclimb title this weekend, propelled by his 2.8-litre SR8 LM.
In a dramatic finale to the nine-round 2018 championship, O'Connell took this year's title in his showdown with Richard McGimpsey despite a late scare with driveshaft issues on the very final run, held at Knockagh, just north of Belfast. O'Connell needed to retain second position on the day to lift the title...but a spin by McGi...msey on his final run on one of Knockagh's tight hairpins meant the championship was assured.
It was a double celebration for O'Connell as he also won the prestigious Leaders Championship, which is based around the Class records on each Hill. Alan Jardine's BDA Escort gave it a real go at Knockagh to pip O'Connell for that title but Gerard needed only one run to secure the Leaders title as well.

Ryan Harper-Ellam limited the damage at Donington Park by claiming victory in the second SR1 Cup race of the weekend.
After his DNF in the first outing, Harper-Ellam needed a bumper score to stay in the title fight against James Pinkerton, with just two races remaining after this weekend. He duly delivered, leading the race from lights to flag.
Pinkerton kept the pressure on to finish second, and will take a handy points advantage to Brands Hatch in November.
... Race one victor Patrick Lay secured the final step of the podium after coming out on top of a close battle with Shane Stoney. Chris Short won the Rookie class, while David Tagg doubled up in the Fangio race.

James Pinkerton extended his advantage in the SR1 Cup Championship with a second place in the first outing at Donington Park, after rival Ryan Harper-Ellam failed to finish.
However, both title protagonists had to play second fiddle to a stunning debut performance from Patrick Lay, who dominated in the wet conditions. Lay started third but broke into a clear lead, leaving Pinkerton and Harper-Ellam to battle. Pinkerton spun at Redgate and Harper-Ellam couldn’t avoid him and w...as forced to park his damaged car.
Lay controlled the remainder of the race to lead Pinkerton home by a comfortable margin, as Will Hunt held off Chris Short to grab the Rookie Class win.
David Tagg celebrated his first Fangio Trophy win of the year in 11th.

Ryan Harper-Ellam continued his 100 per cent qualifying record in this year’s SR1 Cup by securing double pole positions for the penultimate weekend of the season at Donington Park.
Amidst the biggest gird of the season, Harper-Ellam faced competition from newcomers Patrick Lay and Shane Stoney, as well as title rival James Pinkerton but managed to go fastest in a close session, which was afflicted by light rain, forcing drivers into making key tyre choices. Harper-Ellam’s sec...ond-fastest time was good enough for race two pole.
Lay will start second, just 0.4s off Harper-Ellam’s benchmark, with Pinkerton in third and Stoney in fourth. Race one at Donington Park is scheduled for 14:40hrs, and live timing is available here: https://livetiming.tsl-timing.com/183651< br> 1 Ryan HARPER-ELLAM SR1 Gen 2 1:35.678 2 Patrick LAY SR1 Gen 2+0.441 3 James PINKERTON SR1 Gen 2 +0.648 4 Shane STONEY SR1 Gen 2 +0.868 5 Stuart MOSELEY SR1 Gen 2 +1.545 6 Will HUNT (R) SR1 Gen 2 +1.911
