It seems to me that there’s been a lot said about the town centre at the moment, particularly events that are being held, but while everyone debates on whether the council was right or if the events going to work, life for us, the small independent traders (who are paying towards these events) goes on as usual.
Today, was a sad day in Scott Street as we said Goodbye to Christine & John Barker as they hang up their last roll of fabric an...d head off for a well earned retirement.
With over 30 years of experience running a town centre business these are the kind of people needed to rebuild our town because they helped to form a community, and that’s what I personally think our town needs more than anything right now, to be a community.
Events such as those being organised just now are great for bringing in people for a day or two but what we really should be celebrating and promoting are people like Christine who for years just go about running their business each day because without those people the town centre wouldn’t even exist.
Whatever your opinion is on the events being organised by Barrow Bid take time to remember it’s the small things that matter too, like coming into town and having a wander around, maybe visit somewhere new and spend a couple of quid. You’ll not only make someone’s day but you’ll find it’s much nicer to get out and about rather than sitting at home on your own and ordering something from your sofa.
And if you really just fancy a brew and a chat there’s always somewhere to go and someone who’ll give you a smile, try us and see 😍🎨
