Sold another 'Paul' print from The Red Lion bar.
I've started numbering them!
This makes sale number 9.
... When Jo first said someone wants to buy the admittedly enigmatic photograph of a Cromer fisherman, I thought, 'who wants a big black and white photograph of a mean looking bloke having a fag?' I said to Jo, 'It's not really for sale, it's just in The Red Lion to publicise our book on the Cromer fishermen.' Jo said, 'Well a customer wants to buy it, we need a price now!'
When I told Paul I had unexpectedly sold his portrait and what did he want to do about the money, he said give it to the Fishermen's Mission. Contrary to his mean looking image Paul is one of the nicest men you could wish to meet - although he can do mean if you want, it's just that most people seem to prefer it if he doesn't.
So a chap called Justin has just bought print No 9 for his girlfriend. He told me he met her in The Red Lion and it was there she fell in love with Paul…. I know, I know. But this is the third or fourth time a women has fallen in love with the image of Paul and a husband or boyfriend has done the decent thing and bought the photograph. Justin said he wanted to mark their meeting in The Red Lion, and really wanted to buy her something special for her birthday.
Paul is not on show at the moment, but he will be back in the next exhibition, so be warned fellas, your wallet could take a direct hit.

A bright and breezy day in Cromer today

'Zetor'
Cromer at dawn. Here the tractors push the Crab boats into the sea, before you are even thinking of getting up.
... There was a complaint a few years ago from newer residents to the town that the noise of the tractor engines in the morning disturbed their sleep and why couldn't the fishermen set off later in the day?
One of the fishermen said, 'Do you know we never thought of that.'
The noise of the tractor engines starting up in the morning is the sound of a unique fishing fleet starting a long day's work. Manned by local men in small boats it is a sustainable way of harvesting food from the sea and gives character to the town.
I'm always grateful it's not me going out at that unearthly hour in the morning.
This photograph was part of the story of a study of the Cromer fishermen. You can see more images in my Catalouge section on my website www.davidmorrisphotographer.com
An exhibition of images from The Last Hunters - the story of the Cromer fishermen in their own words is also planned for later in the year in The Red Lion.

'Waiting troopers'
The Household Cavalry visit Norfolk every year sometime in July, it's difficult to know exactly when. But they are already in The Red Lion.
... This is the famous Holkham sands on a high tide. The sea came in like quicksilver making shapes on the land. It's here the Cavalry practice their manoeuvres. A magical place to be.

The Exhibition is on for a while, there are stories behind the photographs, be sure to check out the story to the Drum Horse image...the kids will be impressed!

'Sailing by' Cromer
It doesn't do to sail by Cromer. Or indeed the Red Lion.
... So I didn't.
This photograph was taken at dusk one summer's evening on the way to my favourite pub. The waves looked like they couldn't be bothered to come ashore. All I had to do was wait for the surf to form some kind of straight line and press the shutter. A pint followed a few minutes later.
I'm not The Red Lion's Photographer in Residence for nothing... a case of combining business and pleasure.

'The Last of the light'
Fabulous weekend in Cromer.
The Red Lion along with the rest of North Norfolk is blessed with a sun that rises from the sea and sets in the sea.
... Makes for fabulous seascape photography.
