About Me

Hi, my name is Sharon, I live with my husband and my grown up daughter and have been offering flexible, reliable and affordable childcare for 20 years. I understand the thought of leaving your little one with a stranger can be daunting, but from our first visit I hope to put you at ease.
I provide education and care through a varied mix of fun and exciting play based activities where children are encouraged to try things out for themselves, learn from their mistakes and get messy in a supportive and caring home setting. Alongside activities indoors such as messy play, role play, creative activities and of course cosy reading times and music making, the children and I love to be outdoors either in the garden or exploring the many beautiful areas within South Tyneside and beyond.
I follow many aspects of the High Scope philosophy and The Curiosity Approach, which focuses on following children’s learning through imaginative play, to enable them to take the next steps. I have found this educational route alongside a close and caring relationship with children prepares them both educationally and emotionally to be self-assured, problem-solving and caring children.

My Experience

I have a very good understanding of child development and the EYFS which I implement well into everyday practice. This understanding plus knowledge gained from study means I am well equipped to plan and deliver a play based curriculum, putting childrens needs at the centre.
I have a strong conviction that play is the basis for all children’s early learning and therefore provide a balance of child-initiated and adult-led activities to ensure children remain challenged and motivated to learn and encourage a plan-do-review approach which helps nurture children's interests and decision-making skills.

I enjoy professional development and feel the knowledge gained in studying has given me a greater understanding of the issues of childcare and education. I also believe in continuous improvement and understand that critical self evaluation is key to this outcome.
I hold statutory qualifications for childminding, including Paediatric First Aid, Food hygiene and Child Protection together with cirtificates for Conflict Resolution, play techniques Behaviour Management and many more.

I provide before and after school care for children attending Toner Avenue Nursery and Primary School.
