Shaun Harris Racing Description

The team consists of Shaun Harris (trainer) Debbie (trainers wife) and Alex, James and Ian. Shaun has spent all his life with horses and is very passionate about his career. His parents met whilst working in Newmarket. Mick (Shaun’s late father) owned a horse transport company for over 30 years and was a familiar face at the racecourses up and down the country. His mum Pat ran the family stud at Cotgrave and was busy foaling mares and doing sales preparations.

He stared working with thoroughbreds at the age of 13 for his late uncle "Jimmy Harris". He rode as an apprentice and conditional jockey. He has also been a conditional jockey for Bill Clay, Alan Jarvis and Jeremy Glover. He also was Assistant Trainer to C John Hills whilst he had his horses stabled at Southwell Racecourse for the winter seasons of 1993 /94. He briefly held a Permit to train before going to work for Mr. Jarvis again but this time as his Assistant.

Four years ago he decided to buy the property where he trained with "Jeremy Glover". It was the place he actually met Debbie 25 years ago! He took his license out in 2009.

Debbie is a qualified riding instructress and holds her BHS Int SM. She ran her familys Equestrian Centre at Doncaster for over 10 years where students trained for their BHS /NVQ exams and organised dressage & showjumping competitions. She became racing secretary to Mr Jarvis when Shaun was working there which she greatly enjoyed. She now helps on the yard as well as running the office.

Alex Hopkinson came to Pinewood Stables to ride and help out at weekends and school holidays. He went to the Northern Racing College at the first opportunity. He came to work full time in Sept 2011. He has now completed his NVQ Level 2 and then he is aiming to do Level 3 and get his Amateur license out in 2013.

Shaun’s eldest son Ciaran has a Transport business "Harris Horse Transport Ltd" and this always comes in very handy with getting to the races. He has 4 stall and 2 stall horse boxes.

Megan, the youngest of the Harris clan is still at school but helps out on the yard when she can. She has competed showing and showjumping when she had ponies and is now re-schooling Henry Bond and enjoying riding one of the yearling filly.

Declan has decided not work in racing at this time but can often been seen supporting the yard at the races.
