Shearwater Sailing School Description
Mark Lewis, founder and Principle of Shearwater Sailing School, has had a passion for sailing and adventure all his life but it became his job in 2010. We have taught students from the local area as well as from America and Latvia.
In that time was have taught hundreds of students of all ages their, RYA, Competent Crew, Day Skipper, Coastal Skipper, Yachtmaster and sailed thousands of miles just building confidence and experience. We also run ICC weekends, RYA First Aid and VHF radio licenses.
Shearwater Sailing School is a small family run business which has your sailing experience at heart. We love sailing and giving people new skills to sail off in to the sunset if you so wish!

Can you believe it’s the second to last practical course of the season! We left bright and early to get to Bradwell for a late lunch. What a beautiful River! ⛵️🌅
After an early start we have all enjoyed a well deserved fish and chips! With a beer in the yacht club over looking the marina! 🍺🐟🍟
3.30am start from Calais over to Ramsgate and they are still looking happy! Plus night sailing in shorts! Good work crew. ⛵️☀️
Summer Sailing courses are Filling up but there are still spaces! Jump on board In July and August and top up that tan as well as learning new skills or improve old ones!

Top training from Tom. Very calm and measured, and delivered practical on the water training at a pace suited to everyone. Once I put this training into practice I will be back to complete more training and qualifications. Cheers to Mark & Tom!

My wife and me learned sailing with Mark and Tom and was a great experience to do the courses and join their trips. We still are in touch with them today and they help us to improve our skills further. Thanks guys.
Just finished a week on Vala and completed my Day Skipper. Bev Lloyd was a fantastic instructor.
Just been on a week's course/cruise on Shanti II with Vernon. Vernon is a great instructor who inspires confidence and makes one feel utterly safe. He is always positive and encouraging.
I had a fantastic week with Shearwater Sailing aboard Shanti II doing my Day Skipper. We had a range of experience among our group for the week, but our instructor Tom was able to accommodate all of us and give very helpful individual help and feedback where needed. Shanti II is a very well equipped boat, as well as being well maintained and comfortable. It really feels as though you get a more tailored and personal learning experience that you would not get with larger sea schools. Despite a lack of wind throughout the week, all of us always had something to be doing or thinking about in a relaxed, but structured environment. The school's principal Mark Lewis is very experienced and can provide really helpful advice when deciding what course to sign up for. Will certainly be booking with Shearwater for my Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster, couldn’t recommend these guys more.
I did my day skipper earlier this year with Tom and couldn't recommend it more. I found Tom very knowledgable and professional. He made the whole week a great holiday away from work.
I completed my Day Skipper course on Shanti II with Shearwater Sailing School and I thoroughly recommend them. The instructors are fantastic and very professional, giving clear and calm advice which made the students feel at ease and gave them confidence in their ability. There were plenty of laughs as well!

Completed 2 very enjoyable very windy weekends of on the water training at the end of October. The Instructor, Tom, was excellent in his delivery of the training ensuring that all “students” felt fully involved. I have already booked another course for next year.
