Good afternoon everyone! I’m sorry I haven’t posted for a while but it’s been quite busy with the end of the tax year season where I have been ensuring clients have topped up their maximum ISA and Pension Contributions allowances. I’ve also been busy getting them completed early doors for my clients for the 18/19 tax year.
The allowances haven’t changed - you can still contribute £20,000 each to a ISA (either Cash and/or Stocks and Shares). Pension contributions remain at th...e lower of your working earnings or £40,000 for the tax year to benefit from full tax relief.
I was able to invest £77,712 completely tax free for a new client earlier this month. We maximised her ISA (Stocks and Shares) with £20,000 for each of the 17/18 and 18/19 tax years as well as maximising her Pension contributions - Ms J earned £23,570pa, this meant she was able to fund her Pension with £18,856 and the government topped this up with tax relief to £23,570 - for BOTH tax years of 17/18 and 18/19! Within her Pension she was GIVEN £9,428 in tax relief before her underlying investment had even started!!
Are you maximising your full allowances for this tax year?
Did you know even if you are retired/no earnings you can invest £2,880 into a pension and it is topped up to £3,600 with tax relief? It is also within a pension which means it grows tax free and can be passed to loved ones free of inheritance tax!

I had to share with you some lovely feedback I received from my clients Tony and Liz over in Saffron Walden. There have been a number of meetings over the past 6 months but we have achieved far more than we realised and Tony is now retiring early to enjoy time with his family - starting with tomorrow with his daughters wedding!
“Thanks for all your, professional, efforts. Attempting to keep me in the manner that employment has made me accustomed seemed to be a bit of a pipe dream. Now it isn't. Your suggestions and advice have opened avenues that I hadn't considered and will now be relying on. Thanks again.”

I’ve had a great day today. Firstly meeting up with some of my lovely clients that after careful planning are retiring 6 months earlier than expected, followed by helping a client set up a pension and investments for her daughter. Finally I spent the afternoon giving a talk with the Cambridge Coffin Club (yes you read this right!!), the group was hosted by a client of mine who wanted more information on the topic of inheritance tax and how to plan better for their loved ones. The open forum went really well and really opened up their eyes as to how to plan better for their future. As discussed, inheritance tax is an “optional tax”, you can actually do something about it with careful planning with an adviser! I came home with some goodies too which is always a bonus!

A lovely evening with some of my long standing clients in Bottisham, they cooked me some dinner and we came up with a plan to help them retire 2 years earlier than planned! I love it when a plan comes together!

A nice little trip to see my clients from London today, we met halfway at Birchanger Services!
Our meetings over the past few months identified that a pension of Mr’s which hadn’t been reviewed ever, was invested 100% in shares mainly those overseas and meant that the attitude to risk was sat at a 9/10 (1 being the lowest and 10 the highest!!) I had the pleasure of bringing this back in line with his thoughts and feelings about risk to a 4/10 and will continue to ensure that it always matches his views and plans at our 6 monthly reviews. My clients are happy that they have someone to give advice and review their needs whilst also reviewing what their retirement will look like when they actually take the plunge in the next 5 years or so (it is a lot better than they anticipated!)

Did you know that recent studies show that a person on the UK average salary now needs to build up a pension pot of over £300,000 to be able to maintain their current lifestyle in retirement!
It’s anticipated that an income of £1500 per month in retirement would be required to keep in pace of having an income similar to an average uk salary.
With an approximate state pension (based on full contributions of national insurance) of £691, you would need to generate a further £8...09 from other income such as private or workplace pensions to hit than target/goal.
To achieve that kind of income a pension pot of approximately £300,000 would be needed.
This may seem a high figure but people are living longer and the costs of living are continuing to rise.
Other income examples
A total income in retirement of £13,000 per annum - full state pension gives £8300 per annum - difference of £4700 could be achieved with a private or workplace pension of approximately £70,000
A total income in retirement of £56,000 per annum - full state pension gives £8300 per annum - difference of £47,700 could be achieved with a private or workplace pension of approximately £604,000
Are you on track for your retirement? Do you know the income you need to retire on and whether your on track to achieve this?
Get in touch with me and I can help you put your pension requirements to life.
