About Sight Concern Bedfordshire

Sight Concern Bedfordshire aims to improve the independence of blind and partially sighted people in Bedfordshire and Luton.

Sight Concern Bedfordshire Description

Sight Concern (Bedfordshire) is an independent, local, sight-loss charity providing information, advice and practical support for blind and partially sighted people in Bedfordshire and Luton.

“If I hadn’t had Sight Concern in my life I would still be at home, doing nothing all day, not talking to anyone. ”

An estimated 13, 000 people living in Bedfordshire and Luton are affected by sight loss. Although visual impairment can occur at any age, it is more prevalent in older people, with 1 in 7 people aged over 65 and 1 in 3 people aged over 85 in the UK living with sight loss.

Sight Concern works with visually impaired people, their families and carers to make it easier to live active, independent lives.

Today we were attending a 'Picnic in the Park' organised by our good friends the V I P Social club for Visually Impaired People. Unfortunately after weeks of sunshine the rain finally arrived and forced the party indoors. However, spirits were not dampened and the 'indoor' picnic was a great success with a raffle raising funds for the club. It was great to meet some old friends as well as a few new ones. Congratualations to all involved with special thanks to the amazing volunteers who as ever make so much of this possible.

Here's something a little different. Microsoft have been researching ways to make Virtual Reality accessible to visually impaired and blind people. Tradtitional VR mainly focuses on visual feedback but the development of the 'canetroller' utilises haptic and auditory feedback.
