About Soham Playgroup - Windmills

We are an OFSTED registered charity childcare provider for toddlers aged between two and four. Based at St Andrews & Weatheralls Primary School

Soham Playgroup - Windmills Description

We are an OFSTED registered charity preschool, run by a parent committee. We are situated in Soham, Cambridgeshire for children aged between two and four. We received GOOD in our OFSTED inspections at both settings in summer 2016.

We run our sessions from two conveniently located settings, one in St Andrews Primary school and the other adjacent to Weatheralls Primary school. Both settings offer a large play room, with nappy changing facilities, potties and toddler sized toilets. We have a secure outdoor area at both St Andrews and The Weatheralls where children have access to outdoor toys and ride on vehicles like trikes and scooters.

We pride ourselves on giving your children the best possible start to their educational journey. We believe children learn best through play so always have a wide variety of fun and exciting things to do and explore at each session. We aim to provide an environment where children feel safe and secure, where we can nurture your child's independence and help them to grow in confidence.

Last week we held our first ever parents evening (meetings usually held during daytime) these meetings were for parents of children moving up to nursery in September and were very well supported, thank you to all the parents that attended and gave such positive feedback. As we approach the end of this school year we will be having lots of trips into nursery and mixed playtime hopefully this will support your little ones with transition. Don’t forget suncream and hats with the lovely weather forecast for the next few weeks.

We've been notified that our St Andrews setting will be having an inspection by Ofsted tomorrow.
We are very excited to show them our new facilities, and would like to encourage parents and carers to speak to the inspector about our service before and after sessions if you wish. Thank you

The plants at St Andrews have had a growth spurt over the half term! Looking great. Think some strawberries were picked and eaten by the children today. ❤️

Over the Easter holidays the committee have been working hard on the out door spaces at both sites.
The Weatheralls has had a big facelift, clearing out all the storage units to give more space. Fresh paint on the fence and the mud kitchen. Trellis installed with some greenery. Also lovely new bright planters which the children will be planting up with flowers, vegetables and herbs. New mirrors installed in the walls. Really has made a big difference. We will be continuing w...ith this over the coming weeks to make it as lovely as possible.
St Andrews now has a designated wildlife area which is behind a live willow fence. It is all barked with tree trunk seats, bird boxes and feeders, bee and insect houses. This area is to encourage imaginative play so there are lots of hidden fairies and elves and also fairy doors and windows. There have been raised beds built which again will be filled by the children with flowers, vegetables and herbs. We are hoping they will be able to try the things they grow like tomatoes, peas, cucumbers etc. There are planters filled with sensory plants that smell and feel nice. Lots of new sensory things around like wind spinners and chimes of different types. This is an evolving garden which will continue along the theme of sensory and wildlife in the future.
We hope you love it as much as we do and can’t wait for all the children to play and have fun in the new areas.
