Who's ready for this year's Spooky Southend Pier Ghost train?!
Start your journey at the Pier entrance where you will be whisked down the Pier via The Ghost train... There you will be entertained with scary stories and dances brilliantly crafted by the South East Essex college team...
You will have the opportunity to watch the seafront fireworks from the end of the Pier which will only be open to Ghost train ticket holders.
... If that's not enough, the cafe will be open for hot drinks and snacks, the bar will be open for those who need something stronger (to calm the nerves of course!) and a face painter who will transform your pretty faces into terrifying ghouls!
Tickets are priced at £8.00 per child and £12.00 per adult. These can be purchased at the Pier reception or over the phone on 01702 215620.

Did you see our feature on BBC Countryfile?
Anita catches a train to the end of the UK’s most iconic pier to find out how the team manage and maintain a wooden structure that is constantly bombarded by the sea. Meeting the pier’s project manager, Garry Stickland, Anita sees the damage assessment of the lower deck and meets the crew working to replace the fenders on the top deck. All the original wood used in the pier's construction is... tropical hard wood. Its strength makes it ideal for construction - but the team prides itself on its green credentials so sourcing sustainable materials is a priority.

We walked up the pier and back yesterday with the kids 9 and 5. Both of them really enjoyed it and felt really proud when they made it to the end. They enjoyed looking around the lifeboat station and buying souvenirs from the gift shop! They walked back whilst eating ice cream 🍦:-) all in all an inexpensive and pleasant visit for the family.

User

We took the children to the pier yesterday and had a lovely time. We took the train as my mum is unable to walk far but was pleased to know you can walk for a nominal price. I have read the other reviews stating that the cafe is overpriced - possibly, but i guess I expected that anyway as all attractions have this problem. We enjoyed our toasties and cream tea looking out to the water, beautiful. The golf wasn't brilliant but gave the kids a little to do and they liked looking at the lifeboats. I think i like not having amusements at the end of the pier, it's was quiet and relaxing and calm, a step out of the hustle and noise of the main strip.

User

We are so lucky to have the longest pier in the World and be able to go out to sea without getting wet or being in a boat. I walk down the pier on a Saturday morning with my Guide Dog Polly and friends, it is very beautiful and the sea is sometimes so still and then windy some days or raining, what ever the weather it is is lovely thing to do, just walk down the pier. There a lots of places to sit and a great cafe to have a cuppa tea too and something to eat before you walk back or get the train if you are not up to walking back. Polly my Guide Dog loves it, it's a great place to walk for us and experience the beauty of the sea and walk alone or with friends and family. I have walked down this pier since I was a kid with my mum and dad and I have loved it always

User

The walk or ride along the pier is uplifting to say the least. The air and the smell of the sea is unbeatable. The beach huts and the cafe at the end of the pier mean you can snack and replenish.

User

Lovely brisk healthy walk to the end and back. Stopped for tea and cake in the good tearoom at the end and soaked up the sun on their terrace. Thoroughly recommend this pier.

User

I love walking down the pier, it's so calming and peaceful, and for the first time I actually saw fish swimming in the sea, and a lovely cafe at the end to finish off the walk

User

I love to walk along the pier with the children and explore the wildlife on the way. I was lucky to see the sealion swimming at the end of the pier, just his head bobbing up and down in the sea.We caught the train back and watched Jamie Oliver being filmed in the ice cream hut, which was an added surprise.

User

Great to have a walk on the pier. You can catch the train back if it's too much for you to walk both ways. We walked both ways. Nice to see the views!

Southend was a nice surprise, enjoyed the visit. A lot better than we envisaged.

The fish and chips were good too!

User

Great pier, had a beautiful still warm day, with plenty of blue sky and calm sea. Lots of photos taken and walked both ways. Not a bad price to walk ,round robin price of £2. Would come again just to soak up the ambiance of walking the longest pier in the world.

User

Enjoyed a visit to the pier yesterday, evoked many childhood memories, it's the simple things in life that stay in your mind, pleasant walk in the sea air, water shimmering, cold drink at the end. That's all you need, grateful we have it and it's still maintained.

User

A lovely pier with a lot of history. Amusements for the kids, a lovely cafe at the end of the pier and the RNLI shop also. There is also the little train that can carry people to the end of the pier and back if you're not up to making the walk!

User

2nd year meeting santa on the pier with my 2 children, we have met a few Santa's over the years but I'm convinced they have the real deal here, santa and his elves are brilliant, he definatly looks the part, and actually spent time talking and singing with my children in a wonderful grotto and let them choose their own present out of his brilliant workshop! He has made a believer out of me

User

The pier Experience is a unique one ..despite much work and promotions by the Staff the facilities at the end are somewhat lacking .. but getting better !

.Special events are being held regularly .. it really all depends on what ones expectations are.... I find the pavilion to be bland and "clinical" and the bar facility there rather "pathetic". The Cafe .despite being overly expensive, is a painfully slow service !! ..The Pier staff , however, were all friendly.helpful and jolly ! .

User

I feel the pier was a really great attraction but the charge for entrance even if your walking seemed a little greedy. However that said we really enjoyed the train ride, cafe & lifeboat station. A real bonus was to see a paddle steamer dock at the end of the pier while we were there, the nice weather helped.

User

Enjoyed the Pier and the Cafe at the end. Train ride / ticket little unorganised. Joined a big que with our tickets to find out most in front of us had not got tickets, they were waiting for 1 of the group to buy the tickets then push to the front. Ended up standing in the train. Still enjoyed it though.

User

Took a walk to he end of the pier to see the visiting ship. Bad timing as it pulled out just befor we got here. One disappointing point.

Not much at the end any more which is such a shame.

Had an ice cream while looking around.

Got the train back as it was so windy,

User

Enjoyed the walk both ways . High tide with gentle breeze . Sunny and warm . What's not to like . Went there to see the tall ship Mercedes so had a purpose. Spent anout an hour doing that and then had a coffee outside the cafe , great views . I'm happy with a coffee and biscuit / cake so it was fine for me . Hope to go back in August to see Barge Race

User

2 pounds a ticket for a adult walking along the pier ,okay not bad for this day and age,The Pier is long and perfect for costal views and a good walk. You come to the end expecting lots of entertainment etc and it's an anti climax to say the least.A few stalls,A RNLB place and a overpriced cafe with a mini golf for kids. The Train is good esp for the kids but that's at a extra cost too.

User

Ive lived in Southend all my life and have grown up with the shell of the longest pleasure pier in the world....it's an utter shame to hear and see what the pier used to be like tens of years ago nevermind the rest of Southend. The entrance to the pier has been totally ruined by creating a beastly modern eyesore when this is a victorian historic pier, it should be kept the same. You spend pounds to get onto a pier that has virtually nothing on it. You spend over an hour to walk to and from it with a 'cafe' at the end of it...youd be much better off going to Brighton pier.... now thats what I see when I hear of it being a pleasure pier! Should be ashamed of ourselves calling it this when you have people travelling for miles to see places like Brighton and what do we have? Supposedly a 'pleasure pier'.
