St Bernard's High School is a girls Catholic bilateral secondary school located in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, with a mixed sixth form. There has been a Catholic school on the site since 1875, however it was in 1910 that St. Bernard's Convent High School was created on the premises for young ladies by a group of Bernardine Sisters. St Bernard's therefore celebrated its centenary in 2010. The school achieved specialist Arts status in 2004 and a specialist Science status in 2008. The school became academy in 2011. There are 5 forms per year (from year 7-11) known as A, C, F, M and R (full names of houses in the table above). Each form has a range of 25-31 students. Students have the opportunity to get involved in Youth SVP to help the homeless, the elderly and those with special needs within the local community. Mission statementThe mission statement of the school, which is displayed to the public in the main reception area, is "Love one another as I have loved you". EmblemThe school's emblem, which is featured on the school uniform as well as headed on letters from the school, is three swords within a double diamond. Below the diamond reads "Dieu Mon Abri" meaning "God My Shelter" in French. HousesStudents within the school are placed in different houses. These houses are: "A", "C", "F", "M" and "R", short for "Annay", "Clairvaux", "Fountains", "Melrose" and "Rievaulx", all of which are abbeys which are in some way connected to Saint Bernard. An extra house was introduced for the over subscribed sixth form in 2008; "H".
