Went to CompassFest at the weekend. Great beer, great food, friendly welcome from Tony the landlord. It was a great day of music and spoken word. Dog friendly as well, with beautiful views of the Suffolk countryside.
We had a lovely generous lunch, gorgeous whole roast chicken, huge Yorkshire puddings and plenty of veg and crispy potatoes... And an excellent pint of ale :-)
I get the impression the landlord, Tony, aspires to be a curmudgeon, but he is far too kind and welcoming to really pull it off! I arrived as a camper with my dog who had recently had her cancerous leg removed. He lent me his cafetière as I had forgotten mine, gave me some brisket for my dog and sold me some good ale to drink when I had got to the campsite. I went back for 2 meals, fish and chips with lovely light crispy batter and pork chop, with cider gravy, apple slices and several vegetables. He also makes an excellent stout. I will definitely be back.
