Strangers' Hall

Celebrating today two indefatigable museum curators. Rachel Young, Keeper of Social History and later Deputy Director of Norwich Museums, understood that for visitors to experience a ‘sense of place’ and identify with their own history, museums need to bring local stories to life. We see this approach in the guidebooks she wrote which became classic texts for museum interpretation. Pamela Clabburn, MBE, was a veritable Renaissance Woman, with interests ranging from sailing t...o embroidery. She served as a nurse during World War II, setting up as a dress-maker in Norwich before being brought into develop a method of conserving the 14th century Flemish tapestries @Strangers’ Hall. As Assistant Keeper, Pam expanded the costume and textiles collections to include ecclesiastical and occupational dress, and became an international authority on Norwich shawls. In retirement she wrote several books, established the National Trust’s textiles conservation studio at Blickling and was a founder of the Costume and Textiles Association. #MuseumWeek2019 #WomeninCulture

Strangers' Hall is reopen again for the new season! Open Wednesdays 10 - 4pm and Sundays 1 - 4.30pm. Come and join in our On Fire event looking at fire and light in the home. You'll make a lovely decorated night light to take home too!

How did people use fire and light in their homes in the past? Come along and find out in our family event for February half-term week. Special trail plus make your own decorative night light to take home. All welcome, no need to book. Free with museum admission.

The welcome return of wonderful female choir Auriga Capella, singing a programme of early French, Barber Shop and Seasonal music. The sound of their voices fills the Great Hall and sets the scene for Christmas celebrations. TODAY AT 1.30pm. You can spend the rest of the afternoon wandering through beautifully decorated period rooms and following the story 'Twas the Night before Christmas'

What a fab building and really

Lovely staff- a great way to spend a few hours!

Very worth the visit was very impressed and thought it was better then I imagined it to be me and my boyfriend had a lovely visit today plenty of rooms to look around

Very pleasantly surprised at how big the house is! Some lovely rooms to look at and the garden was great- the children loved playing with the toys.

It's a magical house with a magical world inside... Like a time machine, a brilliant possibility to be gulped in through the centuries and back again. Amazing. We do love to come back and back and back again. Norwich is perfect ^_^

I did a ghost hunt here last night absolutely fantastic place full of history would love to go round in the day time next time I visit Norwich ��

First time visiting with a friend and what a beautiful place. Very helpful friendly staff, beautiful hall. Definitely coming again

40+ years since last time of visiting. Most interesting museum, shame the video about it is almost at the end and not beginning

Yes very interesting and first time I have been there despite having lived in Norwich for a while my only critisimn too many stairs and don't seem to cater for people with disabilities I have arthritis in both knees ramps would have been helpful or even a lift and no access for wheelchairs either I noticed
