About Strattons Hotel, Restaurant & Cafe Deli

Strattons Hotel is the most award winning boutique chic hotel and restaurant in norfolk and possibly the UK.

Strattons Hotel, Restaurant & Cafe Deli Description

Strattons Hotel - Norfolk's finest luxury boutique hotel in Swaffham.

Strattons is a small independent family run boutique hotel, restaurant and cafe deli secluded in the historic Market town of Swaffham, once a favourite with the Nelson family and home to Howard Carter who famously discovered Tutankhamen's tomb. Swaffham is only 2 hours from London.

The hotel's award winning chic restaurant, most recently won the E. D. P's 'Best Norfolk Restaurant' award, serves organic and locally sourced produce in an innovative and exciting modern English style.

Strattons is located in Swaffham, a thriving and bustling Norfolk market town set in the fascinating and historic Brecks. Swaffham remains the elegant architectural gem it was in its Georgian heyday, with many Georgian and Victorian façades concealing their medieval origins. Strattons sits in a conservation area within the town, offering an ideal base from which to explore the Brecks, Norwich, King's Lynn, North Suffolk, the Norfolk Broads, the North Norfolk coast and Cambridge. Enjoy healthy walking, jogging, cycling and horse riding on the ancient track ways and peaceful forest trails. The nationally recognised bird reserves within the tranquil and breathtaking North Norfolk coastline is only a short drive away, and Norwich a diverse and sophisticated city with Norman Castle, 12th century cathedral and fabulous shopping. Norwich, the capital city of Norfolk, grew out of various Saxon settlements along the river Wensum and in the Medieval period was second only to London, its wealth built on the wool and textile industries. Norwich is a great location for shopping, with small boutique shops such as Walkers of Pottergate and Norwich lanes.

Art, design, luxury and comfort feature strongly throughout the hotel. Every room is individual, sumptuous, eclectic, hip and funky. From the Red Room, with its carved four-poster bed, open fire and decadent colours, to the tranquil Opium suite where the freestanding bath sits at the end of the bed with room for two and the slick Print rooms, 2 stylish one bedroom apartments complete with kitchen, dining area, lounge, cinema screens and surround sound. There is a blend of comfort with beautiful things collected and loved; an environment that is glamorous, yet immediately puts people at ease.

Stratton's award winning restaurant is open daily from 5pm. The kitchen has a committed philosophy to use the plentiful and abundant seasonal produce on its own doorstep. Everything is made on the premises from the very best produce the local suppliers bring to the kitchens, as well as eggs from the hotels hens and fruit from the orchard.

'CoCoes' café deli sits at the hotel's entrance and is open daily offering fresh, wholesome, nourishing and delicious food using local producers and suppliers. Pop in for great triple alliance coffee, teas, organic wine, local beers, homemade cakes & cookies, light bites and tasty take out.

Wonderful hotel, staff, service and food. Really would recommend to everyone. Quirky (and great) room decor. Good prices: especially the Sunday deal. Love the cats too!

User

Went to Strattons for afternoon tea. It was quite busy and small inside so we sat outside in the beautiful grounds.

The food was wonderful and homemade as it should be. Best warm scones I have had in ages.

The tea and coffee kept coming and nothing was too much trouble.

The staff were very friendly and attentive.

Perfect afternoon for anniversary celebrations.

Well done vanessa and Less from many years ago I found your little gem. Working away from home it was a pleasure when I stayed with you. I'm sure I visited Norfolk more so I could stay longer. I remember just the 2 rooms been done cats, chickens and children running around. Standards were very high and service was very frendly too. Everytime I visited a little more work was done. Vanessa hand picking fresh food and Less was always choosing the wines! It's wonderful to see you in the national press. Wanted to call in at the weekend but we had a 30ft boat/trailer on the back and could not find anywhere to park! Next time eh xx

We hadn't been here since a few years (last time we came menu was more expensive 'pub grub') so were very pleasantly surprised by our experience and will certainly be back... regularly!

Mid-week restaurant was very quiet, somewhat laking in atmosphere but the food and service made up for it.

Although it is semi basement, restaurant is still very light. Table settings with linen table cloths & napkins, water brought to the table immediately as well as a bread basket and butter, delicious little round soft doughy rolls, we asked for more which they brought willingly.

Our chosen starters - ham hock (elegantly presented, generous portion size, good garnishes including homemade mayonnaise) and cured salmon (delicious but portion a little small, could have done with more caper & shallot buttermilk dressing).

Mains - we both had the lamb which was cooked to perfection, pink and succulent! I had mentioned that I don't like 'whole' anchovies if it was served this way (which it was), so mine was automatically brought without. Lovely contrast with textures by serving the lamb rump with a crispy croquette on a bed of diced spring green vegetables which included baby broad beans (whole of course!) and tiny charred onions.

Presentation of all dishes was beautiful, lovely colours, very appealing to the eye all delivered on taste with fresh seasonal flavours.

Typically if we have a dessert, we usually opt for cheese but on this occasion it was so good we wanted to try the sweet dessert. Ice chocolate torte and the frangipane tart served with a small shot glass of rich tart lemon posset which felt like an extra treat on the plate!

Wine menu is good and fairly priced. Service is not automatically added to the bill so when I did, our waitress seemed genuinely appreciative.

Only comments - please turn off the music, not needed and put candles on the tables / add ambient lighting as the overhead lighting was too bright.

Hats off to the chef!

We ate at Strattons last night and the food and service were great. A quirky hotel ( meant in the nicest way) We sat in the lounge for a pre and after dinner drink and we were amazed how peaceful it was. Strange I know but we have been on quite a few cruises and found the atmosphere to be similar to that of a speciality restraunt. We have also eaten breakfast at Cocos and found that also to be excellent. Again the service was excellent. We will eat in both the restraunt and at Cocos again.

Just back from a lovely weekend in Norfolk, staying at the wonderful Stratton’s. Can’t recommend it enough, the food, the staff, the rooms, the rounds & of course the beautiful cats.

User

I love this place. Stratton's onsite cafe, Cocoes is great for an informal lunch with girl friends, the restaurant celebrates most milestones with our family and their award winning afternoon tea is responsible for the fact I am not a size zero.

Had the most stunning Afternoon Tea here yesterday! From appearance to taste, exceptional! Staff are ever so friendly and welcoming! The building and outside was beautiful ! I had my 2 year old sister and 9 year old brother with my mum and I & they were made to feel welcome and we were offered extra sandwiches for them too - which was a very kind gesture; the afternoon tea for 2 was easily enough for 3 adults anyway fantastic experience and will 100% be returning in the near future!! Highly highly recommended !! Lovely surprise for my Mum

User

Had a fantastic night here on Friday celebrating my birthday. They were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The food was lovely and the service was great. Made my birthday a very memorable one for all the right reasons. Thank you so much. Would highly recommend.

User

Extremely attentive staff and incredibly baby friendly. My only criticism is that the high chairs did not have trays of their own, so we had to clear half the table of crockery/cutlery etc as our toddler was grabbing at it all during meal times (maybe our daughter is just extra mischievous!). The food was beautiful, though!

User

Excellent food, friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere as always.

After asking people for recommendations for the best place to go for afternoon tea, stratton's was mentioned a few times. Knowing swaffham quite well I didn't even know where it was. Today we came and celebrated a friends wedding anniversary. The four of us enjoyed afternoon tea with prosecco in the front garden. It was very good, thoroughly enjoyed by us all and will look forward to returning. lovely friendly staff

Such a lovely little place. Had a gorgeous afternoon tea party for my partners 40th birthday party. The staff were fabulous from the very first phone call enquiry right through to the actual event. Food was delicious, would highly recommend this place and we will definitely be returning. Thank you xxx

Lovely boutique hotel in the English countryside - the attention to detail this place offers is to be admired. Genuinely loved my stay and would 100% return in future. Wish I could have taken Bert home, what a funny little character!

Just been for afternoon tea, it was delicious, the best I've had in this area! Really friendly staff and a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Will definitely go again.

Wonderful hotel, staff, service and food. Really would recommend to everyone. Quirky (and great) room decor. Good prices: especially the Sunday deal. Love the cats too!
