About The Coach & Horses

Whether enjoying lunch on the decking, a beer on the patio, playing with the kids in the fabulous play area, enjoying dinner in the restaurant or a quiet pint in front of the fire, we have something for everyone.

The Coach & Horses Description

The Coach and Horses on The Green has always been associated with travel and has been providing the families of Croxley Green with journeys since 1744. Whether enjoying lunch on the decking or a beer on the patio, dinner in the restaurant or a quiet pint in front of the porch, The Coach has something for everyone.

The larger of the two pubs on the famous Green, it has been lovingly restored to former glories and enjoys an enormous outdoor seating play area for families where you can bask in the warmth of the friendly service.

The food served is simple, tasty, hearty and nostalgic with an emphasis on sharing and there is a wonderful range of cask ales, continental beers and a fabulous wine list too.

Went to the coach tonight for the new menu. I sampled a few different things. The coq au vin is simply amazing, full of flavour and fresh. The scotch egg was cooked perfectly and was delicious. And the buttermilk burger was tasty. I look forward to coming back again and trying the rest of the new menu.

User

We came here with a voucher we had won at a great charity evening @action4archie. Food and service was great, atmosphere was perfect... we will definitely recommend and return.

User

Thoroughly enjoyed dinner at the coach and horse last night with colleagues. Delicious mezza starter, great choice of mains for us all and a scrumptious chocolate brownie to top it off. Staff were very friendly and attentive, will be visiting again soon x

User

Just been to enjoy Sunday Lunch just wonderful the selection and quality of our Sunday roasts was perfect. The lamb, beef and the pork were generous in their portion sizes and cooked very well. Friendly staff and good food what more can you ask for on a damp spring Sunday

User

Had a lovely lunch. Great menu to chose from. I like that a few dishes u could either have a full size or smaller portion great for lunch or smaller appetites . Staff very friendly and helpful.

Wee were lucky enough to sit in the garden as a beautiful day, will def be going back with the children as a fantastic play area for them.

User

Had a great lunch and found the food excellent and reasonably priced. also the menu was very good and varied. The pub has a dog friendly area that is very useful for us. Will definitely be returning soon

User

Great kids play area. Looks like we found family place that we've been looking for a while.

User

After a bad experience at a local pub we walked to the coach and horses and were treated really well! The bar staff were so friendly. After getting a table very Last minute our waiter Rob was fab! Thanks for the wicked espresso martini see you soon x

User

Very friendly and cosy, only critic would be not that many tables to just sit and have a drink at . Few were reserved. Will def go back though

User

Just enjoyed a good weekday lunch with work colleagues. good choice of foods and I enjoyed duck confit with garlic mash and beans. all nicely cooked, hot, nicely presented and plenty of it. Young serving staff helpful and attentive. Price was good for the quality of food. comfortable tables and chairs, plenty of room. Will definately go again.

User

Have been too this pub several time ( a lot over the summer time ) as we loved the children Play area for our children. Good food ! But a bit expensive... Great beers for hubby! And now the children eat for free !

We visited today with friends, who has never been to the pub, and wanted to have lunch with us but the waiting time was very long! And they were not able to do any food that is gluten free ... ( for her daughter) The member of staff said only what's on the menu, we can make you ..... Not very helpful

Shame ...

Also the area outside was very very dirty , plates and food left for a very long time .... ( had to clear our Table)

User

We went in for lunch on Saturday. Was told there were no tables however, we could see one was free so we suggested we sat there. The barman told us that table wasnt available as it was reserved for 3pm...it was 1.40pm!! We were told we could sit there as long as we were finished by 3pm! Lunch took ages to arrive, over 45 minutes. Once it came it was lovely and well worth the money.

We noticed others had a long wait for their lunches too and one couple were told that their main meals were ready at the same time as their starters!

The pub itself is small inside, not enough tables in my opinion, but nice and cosy. Seemed popular with families.

The staff appeared quite young and inexperienced but they were friendly and polite.

User

went there for mother’s day a party of 15 with three children started of well friendly and a nice welcome had to wait for an hour for our table not a good start starters came out very quick but the had to wait over an hour for mains to come out only to find not all there and some of the food cold did complain but nothing was done two of our party asked for coffee but one was cold and the other was like water I would not recommend this restaurant to family or friends 😡😡😡😡

User

You took over a lovely, well run pub just a few months ago, already it's plummeted!!

The main attraction of the pub for many is the kids play area, maybe in the morning wipe the bird shit off the slide!! When the wood starts to rot because you haven't treated it, replace it!!

When you serve a roast dinner if the gravy has congealed and the Yorkshire looks like it's been rolled, don't serve it!!

Simple things make for a place you'll come back to, if you can't arsed then charge me Weatherspoons prices!!!!

User

Was here yesterday for dinner, menu was extremely limited and when we ordered the 1/2 chicken we were told it was a typo and it was actually chicken supreme. Lamb and chicken were both cooked very well and were tasty, however the beef burger was revolting, the accompanying vegetables were cooked for what must have been a split second and were almost raw. Service was particularly slow and staff were bickering amongst themselves. Plates of food had been spilled by staff in the outside eating area, and just left, no attempt to clean up...overall really disappointing, and certainly not worth the price.

User

There's not a lot to say - after waiting for a long time at the bar to be served drinks (upon our own prompting of the staff) we were told there would be at least an hour and ten minute wait for food so we left and went next door to The Artichoke. We were thankful for their honesty about the food waiting time...

User

Absolutely shocking! Never have I experienced such bad service & poor management. We pre booked a table for 2pm today, short story we waited 2hrs for our order (having to buy our daughters crisps to tie them over as they so hungry!). When it did arrive the waitress dropped a whole lasagne on one of our party, ok she didn't do it deliberately and the waiting staff were all young girls (one of which was extremely sarcastic) used as a smoke screen for extremely poor management but she'd also dropped a glass and neither mess was cleaned up till we pointed it out. The food was inedible and cold then to be told by the manager he'd 'prioritised us' as we'd booked in advance was an insult. Poor excuses followed. I strongly advise you DO NOT to eat here. I can see it's a lovely pub for a drink but even our rounds took 20 mins to arrive.

User

A disappointing visit. What was once a lovely pub with high quality food and an excellent outside space for children has been allowed to fall below the standards it has set for itself. Whilst I understand the cellars need to be cleaned out once I a while I’m not of the opinion that this should be done during afternoon opening hours; leading to a bar area and toilet corridor crowded with boxes of stock and glassware. The service at the bar was slow and of the 4 staff in the bar; 3 were cleaning and therefore were ‘not able’ to interact with customers, the other did speak to us. The area behind the bar needed the same treatment as the cellar!

The once wonderful outside area that attracted us to the Coach and Horses leaves standards of hygiene to be questioned. The floors have clearly not been swept in the last 24 hours with rubbish, straws and cigarette butts strewn about the grass and decked area. The tables are in dire need of a wipe with a wet cloth and/or black paint. The children’s play area is still fabulous has not been maintained so wooden structures are beginning to rot.

The food ordered from the children’s menu was poor. Service did not come with a smile and no one checked if we were enjoy by the food. We were left to find cutlery and sauces that have been left outside indefinitely. The children’s burger was tasteless and chewy and lacked even the slightest hint of a side salad (cucumber at least would be nice!) the mac n’ cheese was awful! Tasteless floury sauce and over cooked pasta topped with plastic like cheese, again with no hint of any of the 5-a-Day.

Unfortunately we will be looking for somewhere else to treat the family on future warm sunny days.

User

Really bad service & staff. Staff too young & very inexperienced. Lovely place but would never come back to eat as got the order totally wrong & then tried to serve me prawns & bread - (that came out for my start & was meant for my main) it had been stuck back in a the oven for at least 45 minutes. Awful....

There's not a lot to say - after waiting for a long time at the bar to be served drinks (upon our own prompting of the staff) we were told there would be at least an hour and ten minute wait for food so we left and went next door to The Artichoke. We were thankful for their honesty about the food waiting time...

Really bad service & staff. Staff too young & very inexperienced. Lovely place but would never come back to eat as got the order totally wrong & then tried to serve me prawns & bread - (that came out for my start & was meant for my main) it had been stuck back in a the oven for at least 45 minutes. Awful....
