The Control Tower (Old North Creake Airfield)

About The Control Tower (Old North Creake Airfield)

A unique vegetarian B& B with a generous helping of history - just 3 miles south of Wells-next-the-Sea

The Control Tower (Old North Creake Airfield) Description

The Control Tower was built to command all the RAF North Creake Airfield take-offs and landings during WWII. Offering B& B with 4 en suite double bedrooms with lots of art deco and period touches.

We are gathering the history of RAF North Creake Airfield while it was operational and The Control Tower's history. We are building this at the moment. . . if you have anything to add to this please get in touch.

We have lived here since October 2011 and have loved every minute in this bustling rural community. We have made lots of Airfield and 1940s enthusiast friends who also make us feel part of a much bigger community.

Please do contact us if you are interested in what we are doing, want to know more about the history of North Creake Airfield or want to make a booking! !

Best wishes,

Claire & Nigel

Unexpected day off yesterday so we dusted off the walking boots and headed out... what a glorious day - sunny with a gentle cooling breeze. Wells-next-the-Sea is in the middle of Wells Carnival - Wells next the Sea, Norfolk so was buzzing. We had a wonder around the new Wells next the sea Tourist Information Centre & Wells Maltings Trust Arts centre - it is a fantastic new resource for the area. Icecream on The Quay. Then a cheat... bus to Wighton for dinner and a lovely catch up. Rounded off by a Mrs Temple's Cheese board outside The Carpenters Arms where you can see the cows that made the milk that made your cheese... and a port all the while Swifts and Swallows swooping overhead. #mykindofthing #PerfectDay #walk #walking #NorthNorfolk

What a gem!

Claire and Nigel have created a lovely B and B with a great atmosphere. We had a last minute change to our plans and they could not have been more accommodating (thank you so much for that)

The tour of the tower was very enjoyable, Nigel has a great deal of knowledge and imparts this with passion, we learned a lot.

The breakfast was delicious (5 star home made marmalade)

Thoroughly recommended.

Visited once before on an 'open day'. Loved it, so returned to stay for two nights for my wife's birthday. Had a fantastic time.

Indulge in the high quality (historically sympathetic) conversion, history of the building and airfield, the feeling of opulence, the company of the owners Claire and Nigel and, of course, Claire's amazing breakfasts!

You will not be disappointed!

User

Thank you for a lovely second stay. We managed to get pics of a seal on the beach at Wells, they say the frostbite fingers will thaw out eventually lol. So much to do around the control tower so we need to come back soon

User

Quite simply the best three nights we had in 2014: the rooms are stunning, Claire and Nigel are the perfect hosts, the breakfasts are to die for (AND vegetarian! Heaven), the surrounding area is fabulous to potter around in - I just can't recommend The Control Tower highly enough. I received a voucher for another stay for Christmas, so - like The Terminator but hopefully more welcome - we will be back. Thank you for restoring our sanity last year. Pancakes on order in advance XXX Stacia and Richard XXX

Our second stay at the Control Tower, this time in the Stirling Suite. Perfect for our lively two year old as we could relax without worrying about the noise and disturbing other guests, and she loved the ‘holiday house’. Another superb breakfast, complete with ‘happy egg’ which made the toddler’s morning. Can’t recommend this place highly enough: welcoming, comfortable, fascinating. There’s so much to look at and if you love history, it’s perfect. Great location in a lovely part of North Norfolk. Thank you Claire & Nigel, hopefully see you again soon...

My Wife and myself arrived at The Control Tower as a complete surprise arranged by our Daughter & Son as part of our 50th wedding celebration and what a surprise !

Although we are Norfolk born and love the North Norfolk area we were unaware of this Gem. The attention to detail is amazing in all aspects. Nigel and Claire have clearly made great efforts to provide first class attention to all visitors and the knowledge and information is first class. The hospitality and the breakfasts were outstanding.

Personally to top that my Dad was a Pilot in 305 RAF Polish Squadron of Bomber Command so for my part do I need to say more ?..a wonderful experience.....fully recommended.

Marvellous B&B, great veggie food and I’m a proper meat eater. A unique place to stay like no other I’ve been and the hosts are wonderful.

User

I/we had waited a long time to visit The Control Tower B&B after originally reading about it in Flypast Magazine and it didn't disappoint. The tower has been sympathetically restored to 1940's appearance and furnished throughout with furniture of the period. We were greeted on our arrival by Claire and Nigel (after a nightmare journey due to closure of the M6), with a much welcome pot of tea and locally made biscuits. Our room (The Boardroom) was spotless and like the rest of the tower furnished with period pieces, including a very comfortable bed for the time we were there they were the best nights sleep I have had in a long time. Breakfast in the morning is vegetarian, it's delicious and well made (Claire makes drop scones to die for), I certainly didn't miss meat and our stay proved you can eat well without the need for meet. For history buffs (like myself) there is a surprising amount of the airfield left (mostly privately owned though) and moving out from the control tower there are other sites in the area that were operational airfields during WW2 (all part of 100 Group), on top of that there is even a Iron Age Fort within walking distance. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and full of good walks and interesting places to visit (apart from the military history). The Control Tower actually makes a good base to explore that part of Norfolk. Claire and Nigel are wonderful hosts, full of knowledge (don't be afraid to ask questions), they have worked hard to get The Control Tower into shape and deserve the success that it will/is bringing. I have no problem in recommending the place, in fact we will be making a return visit before the end of this year.

User

I have stayed at the Control Tower twice (my husband three times). We first came just before they officially opened and have seen how things have developed over the last couple of years. Claire and Nigel couldn't be more helpful we had a lovely tour of the Tower and my husband had a tour of the airfield so he was happy. I have coeliac disease and they both made me welcome getting in gluten free food for me and treated me well with a lovely breakfast. Couldn't give them enough praise for the times we spent there.

User

Having followed the progress of the restoration over the past year on FaceBook we booked to stay for two nights to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary and my birthday. What a venue. Full of atmosphere and the attention to detail is fantastic. Claire and Nigel are great hosts and make your stay really special. The breakfasts are to die for and I did not miss my bacon and sausages!!!

The rooms are gorgeous and we felt so at home. I need to find a control tower to live in.

As a keen aviation history buff this was heaven on Earth.

My wife and I have already booked for a return visit.

User

Had the pleasure of staying here for a weekend in December. Everything about it was truly amazing, inspiring and gave me the opportunity of walking in my Grandfather's footsteps as he was a Wing Commander at this control tower. We learnt so much from the informative tour too. Nigel and Claire made us feel very welcome and Claire's cooked breakfast was delicious!

User

Fantastic hospitality, beautifully restored, comfortable rooms, lush bathroom (we stayed in the Board Room), yummy breakfast, relaxing, gorgeous garden, excellent informative tour, nothing too much trouble, great area (North Norfolk is stunning), just a truly lovely relaxing night away in one of the nicest b and b's we have stayed in, lovely people who deserve great success after all their hard work.

User

Delicious breakfasts, WWII history, art deco decor, and charming hosts combine to make this a wonderful place to stay in north Norfolk!

User

Claire and Nigel are the perfect hosts of this lovingly restored B &B. The attention to detail from the furnishings to the service is second to none.

Clean, comfortable and lots of little extras like real milk and real coffee in the bedrooms, large fluffy towels, roaring fire in the sitting room - nothing is too much trouble for Claire and Nigel.

Also very handy for exploring North Norfolk.

Make The Control Tower part of your trip to Norfolk!
