My partner and I returned here for our Anniversary. And we certainly wasn't disappointed. Did request to be seated near the log fire and this was so lovely that this was able to be arranged. For us very cosy. Food excellent as before. Well worth every penny. Friendly staff from the moment we entered till we left. Our waitress who was Irish was amazing. Nothing too much trouble. Sorry can't remember her name. Fantastic atmosphere. Everything good value for money. Thankyou for making our evening a memorable one. Look forward to returning soon.

8 of us ate ate at The Cuckoo last night, we pre-booked online, and specified that we would require smooth and timely service as we were going on to Th Arena for 7.30.

The staff were delightful, the pub itself is delightfully ‘olde worldly’ the choice of food was ‘spot on’ and the chosen dishes were ‘delicioso’ , it was a great start to a great evening, thank you Cuckoo , see you again...

User

Visited the cuckoo on many occasions....it did not disappoint! We had an excellent meal, food was delicious especially the lamb shank! Service was great, we will return.

One of the few places that serve Landlord and Doombar beer, which is a big plus for my other half!

The alcohol free beer is very good too if you are doing “Dry January”! Food very nice we had the set menu 3 courses for £14.95 lamb koftas lovely, steak in the sandwich a bit fatty but still enough meat and quite tasty, brownie and Baileys ice cream delicious. Staff all very friendly and courteous.

User

Me and 3 of my friends ate at the cuckoo straight after our inflatable fun run in Peterborough and the staff couldn’t be more helpful! The place was very busy but they still managed to get us a seat near a radiator which was all good. All four of us had a 3 course meal and it was lovely especially the coconut sorbet. The staff told us to please come back as they kept over hearing our stories so kept them very entertained we will all be back

A little problem with how our steaks where over cooked. Manager has not charged for our steaks and a round of drinks. Well done more than could be expected

User

Lovely atmosphere. Very nice friendly serving staff. Great food. Need to sort out booking system though. We had booked a table for 5.45, I telephoned the central booking line and said we were running 15 mins late, he said that the message will be passed on. We arrived at 6.00 and were immediately told 'you're late'. I explained that I had telephoned ahead. I then received an email via the booking system to say that the table had been cancelled. Another booking turned up, and said that they had booked by leaving a message on the answerphone. No record of the booking. The booking system is letting the pub down.

User

I've been here a few times with work and every time something goes wrong. Either the service is slow or the food isn't great. Last night I appreciate there were 13 of us but they forgot my starter when I asked for it they said it's not long off your mains do you still want it? Yes I was starving. I had the garlic mushrooms when they came they were very anemic and not very tasty whether it's because it was thrown together at the last minute

The steak I have to say was lovely with the peppercorn sauce but the onion rings were so disappointing hardly any batter you could see the onion completely.

Think the best meal on the night was the lamb duo and each burger.

Yesterday we were visiting our daughter in Whittlesey and needed a meal before we went home. We chose this pub for our meal because as a rule we love the vintage inn ethos, food and ambiance. On arrival we thought what a beautiful setting and although it was miserable and pouring down with rain could see how lovely it would be in the sunshine 🌞 and better weather, with the option to sit outside. It was very busy and were told that we had to eat in the bar, which wasn’t a problem. We were seated near the door which wasn’t great because everytime someone came through it, which was frequent, there was an icy cold draft. When a waiter came by he shut the outer door for us, which seemed to do the trick until the first visitors came in. Then, we were back to square one as the outer door was left open continuously, which called for me to get up and shut it constantly. The meal arrived 50 mins later which wasn’t a problem as we were told there would be 45 mins wait. However, the meals myself and my husband ordered were stone cold. He had the ham and eggs and I had a 8 oz rump steak. My 2 daughters had pizzas which they said were delicious, so the visit wasn’t a total write off, but I do feel really disappointed with me and my husbands meal. When the waiter came to take the plates away he said he would pass the message onto the chef. I hope that the message gets passed on so the chef can be mindful of this because when going out for a meal is a treat and something that you can’t afford to do very often needs to be perfect. Finally, you want to keep customers loyal and not put them off visiting.

User

In the past this was the restaurant to go to for that special moment, the menu was wide and exciting, always something new to try.

But something has gone wrong, the 'Sunday only ' menu had many things already off and it was very early evening, so my choice was the Hunters chicken dish, however the chicken was as dry as a Saharan goat hearders face, the gammon was tough and the melted cheese was under the heat so long it bubbled with the heat and the resulting bubble dome became charred a dark brown colour and had a strange taste, this menu item only comes with chips, no veg, no salad, you have to buy something extra to make it a meal, then onto the dessert, I had the crumble, the fruit was bland, (add a spice or something please), the crumble itself was a very thin disc in the centre of the bowl which like the cheese mentioned earlier was overcooked to a point that the crumble was as hard as a biscuit.

You must understand the food was not good the bill was out of proportion to the standard expected for the amount paid but as always the service was excellent, the ambiance superior to many restaurants in the locality but having a nice place with good staff is one thing if the food is not good then it becomes a place not to visit, there is so much choice in Peterborough so you have to maintain high standards or customers like me will go elsewhere.

User

Furnishings all a bit tired, in fact the whole place is getting a bit dog eared since last I was there, that said the staff were pleasant, polite & efficient, service was swift enough too, the food was ... ok sorta ... the beef was lovely, what bit there was of it, 2 small oblong pieces, one of which had a large ... 30% of the slice ... rind of fat, the veg was fresh and tasty but at least 25% of the roasties were black inside, the Yorkshire puds were also a tad on the chewy side, but edible, on the whole considering the fairly hefty price for a Sunday lunch I felt I could’ve got ... indeed have had ... at least as good for considerably less money, in effect, whilst ok “sorta” it was, I felt, poor value for money

User

We had a table booked for 7.30, when we arrived had to wait 5 minutes before anyone even came to seat us, we ordered drinks eventually which arrived after half an hour, we then kept trying to order food but were told by our server he was too busy! Food eventually arrived at 9.15, 1 hour 45 minutes after arriving! The burgers were cold, chips just warm, pizza was good, steak inedible, eventually our server came back, complained and were offered another steak meal, this then arrived 15 minutes after everyone else had finished, our second order of drinks never did appear. I would not recommend this place or go again, service was appalling, not enough staff on and staff who were there, were either rushed off their feet or simply not bothered. To top it off they had also run out of all the specials, had no fish and chips, no duck salad, no seabass. We left eventually after asking for our bill, which of course did not arrive, had to chase staff down to give our money, a simply terrible evening which was such a shame as we were out for a family occasion

User

The alcohol free beer is very good too if you are doing “Dry January”! Food very nice we had the set menu 3 courses for £14.95 lamb koftas lovely, steak in the sandwich a bit fatty but still enough meat and quite tasty, brownie and Baileys ice cream delicious. Staff all very friendly and courteous.

Lovely village pub with a great beer garden, had some lunch and drinks whilst enjoying the bank holiday sunshine ☀️

A little problem with how our steaks where over cooked. Manager has not charged for our steaks and a round of drinks. Well done more than could be expected

User

Really poor meal last night, steak was over cooked and tough as old boots and the Yorkshire ham my husband had was tasteless, we wouldn’t go again. Overpriced and rubbish!

User

Brilliant atmosphere. Lovely open fire.... ate here for 5 nights while working nearby. Wednesday Pie night is the best. You have to try the mushroom starters and the steak is fab too.

User

Always a great meal there , been many times. Mainly Family. We sat outside on Sunday . Was perfect. With Krissma & Matt

Visited the cuckoo on many occasions....it did not disappoint! We had an excellent meal, food was delicious especially the lamb shank! Service was great, we will return.
