The Hoste Arms

About The Hoste Arms

Founded in 1651, The Hoste is an historic hotel and bar at the heart of the picturesque Norfolk village of Burnham Market.

The Hoste Arms Description

Welcome to The Hoste, an historic hotel and bar, located in the thriving village of Burnham Market, only a couple of miles from the beautiful North Norfolk coastline with its spectacular sandy beaches and wild dunes.

The Hoste is comprised of a collection of unique and charming properties, all situated within Burnham Market. Our original boutique hotel, The Hoste, is located in an historic building dating back to the 17th century and has thirty-four individually styled bedrooms, including Room 5 where Admiral Lord Nelson once stayed. A short walk across the village green lies the Georgian splendour of Vine House with its eight luxurious suites and pretty wisteria-clad walled garden. Those in search of something a little quirky will love Railway House, a former train station that is now home to seven stylish rooms, or Railway Carriage, a character filled hideaway that is perfect for couples, whilst our three Luxury Holiday Cottages offer a home-from-home experience and are perfect for families or larger groups. We also offer several dog friendly rooms.

Our menus are updated regularly to incorporate fresh, seasonal, local ingredients throughout, whilst our famous bar features an extensive wine and cocktail list in a cosy, traditional panelled setting, steeped in history. And for those looking to truly relax and unwind, our Beauty Spa offers a range of pampering treatments, including our signature massage, as well a luxurious hot tub which is set al fresco in the privacy of the Spa garden.

What a perfect way too spend a Sunday afternoon being pampered in the luxury spa, highly recommend the Champagne Afternoon Tea Spa package, the massage was out of this world that I had by the lovely Nicola Ryder! And my facial was simply amazing and you could really see the results. And too finish off after the relaxing treatments was the delicious Afternoon Tea. A fantastic selection of sandwiches through too cakes! We had such a wonderful day, we have booked again!! Worth every penny for luxury xx Thank you to the lovely girls in the Spa xx

User

What a great place to escape from the grey and rainy day outside and take refuge in the warmth and comfort of the Hoste. We managed to get the prime table, right in front of the fire in the main bar and didn't want to leave. Beer was really good and we would have liked to stay for more, but sadly had to drive home. Such a pretty village and the Hoste is at it's heart.

User

We returned to be welcomed by so many staff members. Lovely to see familiar faces, ( good reflection on the management that staff who venture away so often return) and be really spoiled. Yes, over recent years there have been changes, and we have adjusted to that. The updates have made the Hoste the success it undoubtedly is, busy, busy busy, yet staff make time to look after you. Dogs especially welcome, cinema and gym added assets, and the Spa going from strength to strength. Presentation of food outstanding, and any slight quibbles rectified promptly. We can't wait to return. Look out for special offers!

User

We enjoyed a lovely stay here at the weekend- I can’t fault anything. I’d disagree with some of the reviews on here, we had a very warm welcome from the ladies on reception, and the rest of the staff were equally talkative & always made the effort to come & chat to us throughout our stay. Our pup was also very happy with the doggy treats that came his way & the fuss he got! It was a busy weekend for them with the super car event, and the music night, but we were never left waiting & were always made to feel very valued as guests. We’ll certainly be back- it will be our new bolt hole for some R&R. Special thank you’s to Amy on reception for sorting us a fab room & providing endless entertainment with her dog-napping skills, Inga in the restaurant for her excellent wine selling & oyster knowledge & Alex for his banter! You have some great staff. Thank you X

User

We absolutly loved it!!!! My partner who has never been (birthday treat) could not stop saying 'amazing' whilst eating his pork belly main. Only criticism is that my pistachio & lime macaroon on the cheesecake wasn't comple....only 1 half the macaroon and no filling. Had saw a picture on Instagram of this dessert before we came, neither the less it was delicious! Staff attentive and very helpful! Cannot wait to return!

User

Took my wife here to this beautiful boutique hotel as been recommended by some very good friends, exactly as they said it would be, fantastic location, friendly accommodating staff, amazing service from start to finish, brilliant restaurant with superb choice of dishes! Loved it!

On arrival welcomed by 2 very friendly young ladies Amy & Abbey both very happy to help and very informative, went immediately into restaurant where we met the very hard working Inga, this lady was fantastic at her job, very knowledgable with regards to the menu and the choice of wines to complement, nothing too much trouble even staying very late whilst I had cheese and biscuits with our nightcap!

Will most definitely be coming back very soon! Highly recommend this hotel!

Well worth the 2 1/2 hour drive 😊

User

They didn’t inform us the the restaurant was fully booked for a charity party on Saturday night , we were given a time of 9pm for a table when we came down that evening at 8:45 they were only starting serving the main course

Luckily we found No 29 a restaurant 2 mins walk and they obliged us as they stopped taking orders a 9pm they produced a wonderful meal and great service

User

Lovely spa treatment with use of the hot tub. Friendly staff. Food I bar was lovely and staff were pleasant and helpful.

User

Just returned from another fantastic mini break at The Hoste. Particularly note worthy is the food, quite simply flawless in its preparation and execution. Dishes clearly intelligently put together using the finest local ingredients. Wine list exceptional and staff all very warm and knowledgeable assisting with our often demanding requests. Top marks well done Team Hoste!

User

Just love The Hoste. Beautiful experience, from the rooms, food, Spa treatments, attention to detail.

It was a birthday treat & ‘treat’ it was. We will be back very soon, birthday or no birthday

User

Found myself on a surprise birthday stay at the Hoste, having visited a few times in the past have always wanted to stop here. Had one of the top attic room which had been designed in theme..... bedroom leading to a snug area and large bathroom. Dined in the restaurant at night.... not many in so a large area for a few people but never the less a great meal! Service charge was added on so watch this, I don’t agree with that as a stance but that’s just my view (didn’t make a fuss as not wanting to spoil an otherwise fantastic stay) noticed you can bring dogs into the bar areas so we will be back with furry friends in tow.

User

Exceptional staff made us very welcome indeed. We sat in the sun soaked garden early Sunday afternoon and the kids had the most amazing food (we were eating later). We had two well behaved dogs with us and they were made to feel welcome too. We’ll be back

User

Dropped in last night having tried most other places in the area. We were so pleasantly surprised. A great atmosphere in the dining room for an early Sunday evening, the food was superb and the staff were enthusiastic and friendly. Even have some great quality wines available by the glass. We will be back.

User

I’m a fan of The Hoste, but feel that the consistency in staff training isn’t there - they’re either really pleasant & reasonably attentive or surly & rude. I visit frequently & often bring guests who are staying with me and never know what service we’re going to get. I think there’s still huge potential to make this good business fantastic, but there needs to be more training and a higher, more consistent standard of guest interaction.

User

Have been staying at the Hoste for many years and hope to continue doing so for many years to come, but what a change of atmosphere. It used to be such a friendly, welcoming place and is now nothing more than a profit oriented business. Of course profit is essential if it’s to continue, but where’s the warm, genuine welcome we used to enjoy? On arrival what we had was the pat speech clearly learned by heart delivered at machine-gun speed. No warmth, no friendly acknowledgement of being very long-term guests. The best and most sincere sounding welcome was by restaurant staff - well done to them. If it weren’t for the brilliant location and comfortable rooms we’d be thinking twice about repeat visits. Oh, and please do provide the classic rooms with somewhere to hang wet rain gear when we return from those wonderful walks. Still love coming though. Just wish we could regain that much loved feeling of being in a friendly country pub where the owners care about their guests.

User

A 2 night stay between Christmas and New Year 2017 having visited numerous times.

We had heard things had changed and it was sadly true.

The Hoste had lost its sparkle.

Our room was tatty (black mould all around the shower for starters), the one meal we had there was really poor (main course arrived whilst still eating our starter), the seating areas were full of non residents so there was no where to relax, the attitude of the bar staff was woeful and no one really seemed to be taking charge of the whole place.

I did leave a comprehensive set of constructive comments on the feedback form in our room (19) but heard nothing back.

So we have defected to The Globe at Wells and what a pleasant change.

We will be visiting Burnham but only to eat at the 2 new restaurants there (tried 20 North Street on the last visit and it was really excellent).

Sadly we will not be regretting our choice.

User

Our latest stay at the Hoste, where we have stayed for the last few years for our Wedding anniversary, was a very different place than it was. The place itself as s still a wonderful place to stay with fabulous rooms and a lovely feel of an old country Inn. It stopped there for us on this visit. We decided to experience the recently installed cinema, but after booking our seats, had to go to reception three time to get someone to start the film and then when all the adverts had finished we had to go again to get started me one to press play! The advertised waiter service for drinks was non existent and predictable! We were used to a very friendly, customer focused staff, intent on making our stay a memorable and unique experience replaced with a very generic service. We waited patiently at breakfast to be seated while the waitress was texting and only drew her attention by banging on the table. I don't mind spending money on a few days away but £9 for a glass of average wine is probably slightly pretentious. On previous stays, we would get asked if we wanted another drink, and then brought to us .... dosnt seem to happen now. I really hope the Hoste brings back the magic and welcome that it had in the past.

User

Well what can I say. Firstly you were not serving food, and then you ran out of bar snacks. But by a miracle you had a special delivery of crisps, which you’d clearly bought from the corner shops and were not for re-sale, but sold them at £1.50 a pack. Not only breaking the law but also ripping off your customers. Shame on you.

User

One of the worst displays of customer service I have ever experienced. For a light lunch on a Monday afternoon, the food took over an hour to arrive, none of which came together. I would like to comment on my lunch, but mine didn’t actually arrive! “They forgot”! The food was stale, drinks arrived with the bill and their excuse was that they had an unexpected busy day...the restaurant was half empty. The only saving grace was that they tried to rectify the experience and didn’t charge us. For somewhere that comes highly recommended It seems that they have become very complacent.
