About The Olde Windmill Inn

A village inn in Great Cressingham, serving fine foods and ales. We have three bars and 7 dining areas, plus 14 en-suite bedrooms.

The Olde Windmill Inn Description

A village inn since circa 1650, The Olde Windmill Inn has been run by the Halls family for nearly 55 years and has built its reputation on serving fine food and country portions at competitive prices - from an extensive menu with weekly specials, plus our six real ales and twelve draught beers and lagers.

The rambling Olde Windmill Inn has three bars, plus seven separate dining /family areas, all steeped in history and “Olde World” charm. There is also a children's play area, lawns and patio which can accommodate up to ninety people. It is located just off the beaten track, in the rural village of Great Cressingham (twixt Watton and Swaffham), with easy access from the A1065, B1108 and A47.

At The Olde Windmill Inn we also offer two (five van) Caravan Club C. L. sites, discreetly located in the grounds. The Water Meadow (across from the pub) and The Windmill Paddocks (at the rear of the pub) with laundry and shower facilities.

Also, recently added - our Fourteen new en-suite bedrooms. Furnished to an excellent standard, this offers another great way to stay and enjoy the picturesque countryside and The Olde Windmill Inn.

We haven't stayed as yet only eaten as we are caravanners and been going there ten years or more to eat, and the food is first class, but only had two course as no room for three lol, but this last visit I noticed my knicker bocker glory that I had for a sweet, about two inches in the glass, half way down was empty, I guess it's the way they fill them to look large ones, the staff were helpful and friendly, will defo keep going,

We have visited The Olde Windmill Inn several times having stayed on their caravan site, however this weekend was the first time we stayed in one of their rooms. We were very impressed, the room was well presented although quite compact, perfect for a short stop over. All the staff we met were extremely welcoming and jolly and our dog was welcomed in the bar. We had an enjoyable evening meal and a superb breakfast this morning. I would certainly recommend this lovely traditional pub restaurant, we will definitely return. Thank you for making us so welcome.

User

This was our second visit to stay.really love it.The staff are very friendly & helpful. The food is brilliant. The room we had was very good.shall be going back again.

User

User

The food is fantastic, and the staff very friendly. Lovely place.

Just had 2 nights at Olde Windmill Inn. The accomodation was clean and comfortable and the food is excellent. The staff are friendly and efficient and very helpful. We have stayed here before and I am sure we will be back in the future. Highly recommended.

User

Great place to stay. Very welcoming. Lovely breakfast. Comfortable bed. Definitely recommend. Great beers

User

Found this lovely place by chance, warm welcome by friendly staff, tasty food, comfortable room, totally recommend for a quiet night away, and a good price for accommodation.

User

Food was fantastic.all 4 of us ate everything on our plates n loved it.then had delicious pudding too. Food came out in good time too.

User

At the time of doing this review we are still on our first full day. But, having said that we can't vault the place. Rooms are clean and well presented with nice furnishings. Large double bed which is well comfy. The bar is well stocked with several real ale's, various lagers and ciders. They're is a great selection of food on the menu, way to much to list and the portions are ample. We both had the Farmhouse breakfast this morning which consisted of, 2 sausages, 2 bacon, 2 eggs, 2 hash browns, baked beans, tomato and mushrooms and toast. Well worth the money. And we would definitely stay here again.

User

A gem of a find on the internet..... fantastic value, good food, great staff and dog friendly. The pub is like a maze... rooms off rooms... snugs..... and a bar area I could only describe as a riot of glass, bottles and wood. Well recommended.

User

The food was very good and the staff were excellent, very attentive. We arrived early which wasn't a problem as our table was already waiting for us. Couple of things that bugged us though....my son ordered gammon, egg and chips but it came with pineapple as well as egg (the menu says either not both - he doesn't like pineapple) We also couldn't understand why all dinners came with peas and salad! One or the other would have done us. The portion size was large, sadly too large for the size of the cold plates. Next time we go we'll be more specific over what we want to eat. Other than these few points we had a good meal and will be returning.

User

A very comfortable room, excellent food, very good service.

Enjoyed my stay.

User

I've been to the Windmill several times in the past and the food has always been very good, although bar service is often fairly slow.

Today was different. The food was ok (Burger good but fish & chips merely 'ok') but the service was very poor.

We were warned on arrival of a delay for food (fair enough even though we'd booked) but it took another 20 minutes after the food arrived to be served extra drinks at the table after we'd ordered and had to remind other staff about them twice.

We had intended ordering dessert but then no one came to take our mains plates away so we eventually went to the bar where they couldn't even find our bill (good job I'm honest about what we'd had!) paid and left. We weren't even a big group; two adults & a toddler.

If it wasn't for previous visits I'd have left a 1* or zero if possible. Sorry Windmill, we won't be back.
