Went to the popinjay for a 2 night stay with my sister was absolutely fantastic, we place had so much charm about it! Reception and restaurant staff were fantastic and helped out with everything we needed n a special thanks to Megan the we beauty therapist for our treatments in the spa was so relaxing and very professional, will definitely be back even if it’s just for food was amazing and very decent price for great standards, keep up the good work xxx

User

Thoroughly enjoyed myself at frank and Ian’s wedding ceremony and reception yesterday. The staff in the popinjay are absolutely amazing and couldn’t be more helpful. The food is also really excellent. Being a vegetarian, the vegetarian option was tasty and just the right amount. Couldn’t finish my review without mentioning the popinjay hotel and surroundings. Coming from wishaw i’m Not far away from rosebank , an area I’ve always loved and as for the hotel itself ,not only is it historic but it’s also very beautiful. five stars without a doubt.

User

Poppingjay is a good hotel with lovely people employed throughout the hotel! I have been staying here Monday to Friday for the last year and the staff always try their best to make your stay enjoyable! The food is good but there is a limited and conservative menu! There is a large gym and a swimming pool! The bar is good extensive if a little expensive! The rooms are reasonable but could do with a good decorate!

User

Having just had an overnight stay at the Popinjay, I can honestly say it feels like a home from home. My husband and I got married here in February last year and returned last night along with some friends and family to stay overnight for a celebration. On arrival we were greeted by Helen like our wedding was last weekend, Alison was also there to chat to us. The rest of the staff all knew who we were from over a year ago. They accommodate for our every need, are so friendly and very professional.

The food in the restaurant was amazing! I had the battered fish and I though they had battered a baby shark! It was huge! Generous portions, very tasty food.

Drink service was also great, the barman kept our drinks topped up the whole night.

Overall top experience, I will never forget what an amazing day the hotel and staff made my wedding day and visiting again just reaffirmed what I already thought.

Great job Team Popinjay!

Kind regards

Attended great wedding yesterday at Popinjay Hotel, lovely venue, could not have been better, had lovely room with 4 poster bed, comfy and en suite bathroom. Restful sleep and great breakfast. Would recommend it if thinking of venue for a wedding.

User

We had a fabulous day for our wedding at the Popinjay Hotel on 23 March 2017. Room was beautiful, staff were excellent, food fantastic and they couldn't do enough for us. Reason it's 4star is two wee things - my hubby to be's room and the best man's rooms had no hot water on day of wedding (though the hotel cleaner sorted this out by getting them access to another room, receptionist wasn't very helpful) and the Bridal Suite had no hot water after the wedding so my plans of using their very nice looking hot tub with a glass of bubbly to chill went awry. But the wedding itself was perfect. Thanks to Allison, Erin, Michael and rest of team for all their fab work xx

User

Lovely hotel, beautiful grounds, Jacuzzi, sauna and swimming pool were great, the room and bathroom we're modern and really great (apart from none of the windows would open and it was warm; luckily there was a fan). Food in the restaurant in the evening was very nice and breakfast was fair. Hot water was not great. A hot shower had to be a trickle of water. Overall we really enjoyed our stay. It's a pretty hotel and looks great for a wedding venue.

User

The place was ok very basic food was ok soup was cold , burger and fries were good and the deal was good . Bedrooms looked nothing like in pics , very dated carpets were absolutely disgusting all stains and marks and paintwork badly needing done . Spa facility basic however the staff were fantastic and really happy and Helpful can’t fault the staff at all . The breakfast was the biggest let down everything was rock solid and cold . Overall not bad for the price we paid but wouldn’t rush back again .

User

Recently stayed at the hotel for my friends wedding on 19th August. The staff in the hotel were lovely and very efficient the wedding was fantastic and the food was lovely. The room was very small and I was disappointed I paid the same amount as other members of the wedding party and their rooms were larger. The facilities in the room were OK. Although when anyone put on the hot water the plumbing was very noisy. Overall I don't think it was worth the money I paid and I don't know If I would stay again.

Must say the staff including allison were fantastic we did have a lovely time at the wedding.

User

Partner and I called in for lunch dining area lovely, food was alright the portion size ok for a child but not an adult . service was good biggest problem was the flies round our table told reception but the receptionist wasn't too bothered . won't be back.

User

Was mine and my husbands 1st overnight in 7yrs for our anniversary/birthday over the wknd, we have 3 kids and a dog so trying to get all watched is a nightmare but managed it! Had it planned for months was a surprise for my hubby! Only to b email a cpl of days before to say the pool was closed and they could give us another date, but trying to get babysitters and a doggy sitter isn’t easy for all my kids, anyway they gave us a complimentary bottle of proseco, all the staff were lovely our treatments were great, but we found out in the morning after talking to members of the the spa that when we booked the stay the pool was already closed and has been since! They have also lost a lot of members as well!! Such a shame as all the staff are great! N that is the only reason they are being marked 2!

User

The setting of this hotel for a wedding is gorgeous with beautiful grounds. Public areas of this hotel were lovely. Staff very helpful. Food was great. Unfortunately the bedrooms are horrendous. Our room for 3 was a double room with another bed added making the room exceptionally cramped. Our room was at the front of the hotel so with the road noise, a nights sleep is impossible (a common complaint from other guests we spoke to). Carpets on way to bedrooms are heavily stained and look dirty. This hotel needs a major investment in the bedrooms. Unfortunately due to the location, this hotel has little competition. Pity as it is beautiful location.

User

Spa area was great! Bar staff were great! Room was ok, dinner was a terrible experience got our starter was fine then sat 10 minutes after finishing starter to be told something we ordered was no longer available, then had to sit another 35 minutes before getting our main, we had to ask for more cutlery cause we weren't given any after our starter, to be told he'll be right back with our side he forgot to give us and the cutlery, 10 minutes later he came with the wrong side, and cutlery by this time our main was cold! Reported all what happened and only got a couple of pounds removed from bill! Terribly run kitchen for the money there charging you for the food!

User

Myself and my partner went to stay hear for 2 nights as we were visiting family in the area and the hotel could do so much better. When we got to the hotel, the receptionist wasn't very welcoming and straight away asked for our payment when I haven't even seen my room. When she finally gave us directions to our room we found it had been not properly ready for an arrival. It was very dusty and im not talking about a couple of days dust! Another issue with the room was that the table in the room was not practical as you coudlnt sit at it. Our room had no hot water on arrival. There was a crack on the window and damaged walls in the room aswell which could be easily fixed. When we finally got into bed the first evening there was a stain on the sheet. The housekeeping would of seen the blood stain on the sheet when making the bed! Attention to detail is key. In the morning after the water finally working we went for breakfast. It was okay, however in the room for breakfast most of the chairs were stained and needed refurbed or replaced. We went to reception to complain about hot water and the stain on the bedding but least they were able to help. However they told us the had no boiler troubles and told me I was lying about no hot water. Went back to the room and saw it was part serviced. Not happy about that either bit finally got the room reserviced. The wifi was also non existent, barely had any connection. However at least the bar staff was helpful when I asked for more tea bags and milk for the room and asking us if we wanted plates and culterlly for our tea we brought in. The reception staff the next day were also very nice. The hotel is good that it has its own pool and gym aswell. Overall I'm not sure I will be back but perfect location! I did ask for a comment back after filling out the comment about your stay but still haven't heard back. Clearly not interested enough.

User

My husband and I stayed and I’m so disappointed in the standard of the rooms has dropped. Water pressure was horrendous, tap in bathroom had a bit missing , bit of rusting on the bathtub. Wallpaper wasn’t paste on properly. Worst part was we couldn’t sleep as the room was next to some kind of generator or something that made a noise all night! We had to leave early in morning to go home to sleep before we started our shifts at work later!!! Absolutely ridiculous! We paid around £75 for a sleepless, uncomfortable night. We won’t be back, shame cos the location is pretty decent and staff were nice. But this hotel has seen better days and if you want a sleep, don’t let them put you in room 23!

User

I was taken to the Popinjay as a birthday treat but was very dissapointed. The bedroom was very small and in need of some urgent TLC. The bed was broken, there was a hole on the floor, cardboard holding a door closed and a gap between the door lock and frame. The power shower lacked the power and the pressure of water was very low. Breakfast was ok if you were fine with cereal as the hot food containers did not keep the food hot and the toast that was put at our table had to be retoasted.

I will definatly not be back and would not reccommend it.

User

Been here a few times over the years but this trip not good. The Clyde Suite is very dark, heavy velvet fixtures mostly black, mid silver and light grey. Some may consider this "modern" but I felt it dark and had every light in both rooms on all night. There was no hot water from 6pm until 7.30am when I had a barely lukewarm shower despite being told by the manager on two separate occasions it was being repaird - clearly it wasn't!

Internet connection was intermittent, non-existent most of the time.

Only saving grace was the breakfast (very tasty) and the restaurant staff, friendly and always smiling

Maybe I caught them on a bad night and since my company were paying for it and it was only one night I just left discreetly in the morning. Had it been coming out my pocket I would've insisted on a discount .

not impressed back to the New Lanark for me next time

User

So I have been coming here regularly when i been fit and able to help me with my Fibromyalgia.

5 yrars ago i started coming and was told then that the leisure facilities were going to be getting done up. I use the swimming pool the jacuzzi and the sauna to help with relaxation, gentle exercise to help get through with everyday life.

Sadly i can say after todays visit and the experiences i have encountered on visits previous to this I will not be back! Ladies changing facilities are a disgrace, dirty, smell of urine, toilet cubicle door locks broken and ceiling looks as though it coming down.

As for the swimming pool area, water in pool and jacuzzi very dirty, paint flaking off ceiling, showers a danger because if child had to use they would get burnt. Only 2 showers working out of 4 or 5.

Very sad that no one has any interest in maintaining what was once a very nice place to relax. I know lots of people who were previous members here and have not renewed their membership for all these reasons. Even shocked tonight that the fact it cost me £12 for one adult and two kids. Rip off!

User

Poor, poor and very poor. Shouldn't be offering spa days. Hair in food and cold. Oh and I could say much more negative comments. Spoke with duty officer at the time, who said the Manager would contact me. Obviously they don't want to improve, kept or gain customers, never had a call. As i say very poor.
