We were pleased to hear a bar menu was being introduced. The Flitch being the only village pub, as locals we desperately wanted somewhere we could pop in regularly. We tried it and enjoyed it, very tasty suet pudding finished off with sticky toffee pudding. Not a large plate of pub grub as such but pub classics x fine dining with the price reflecting this we are happy that we at last have a local pub/restaurant

User

We visited last night for dinner and it was one of the best meals we have had in a long time! Lovely surroundings, attentive staff & the food was perfect... I’d recommend the scallop and bacon to start it was delicious.. thank you for a great evening

User

We stayed at the Flitch of Bacon and enjoyed a beautiful meal as a gift from our children. This restaurant exceeded our expectations totally. Would recommend if you like an amazing dining experience with attentive staff.

To wake up to the gorgeous breakfast that was served was also a real treat

We will be returning especially after seeing the Sunday roast on offer

Thanks again for a lovely evening

User

We had a lovely evening. The food we ordered was fabulous and to top it all we were surprised by beautiful nibbles and entre-mets , gorgeously delicious ameuse bouche and great service.

Absolutely loved the venison and as I am not a sweet tooth had the selection of cheeses after the mains.

And what a selection! Absolutely delicious with lovely accompaniment of crackers, beards and yummy chutneys!

I’ll go back very soon!

Thank you so much to the Flitch of bacon team!

We enjoyed a lovely 3 course dinner at the Flitch of Bacon for a friend's birthday. We were visiting our local friends from Australia so were looking forward to some delicious game dishes & we weren't disappointed. The game terrine was a great balance of flavours and the quail was apparently the best quail my friend had tasted. 3 of us enjoyed the the venison for main with one guest selecting the pork & was equally as impressed with their choice. We all felt the experience was fabulous & good value for money (except for the bread which we thought was overpriced in comparison to the menu). The service, while good, could be improved in terms of menu knowledge. On more than 1 occasion the waitresses could not answer basic questions about the menu and had to refer to the chef. Not a deal breaker by any means & I stand by my 5 rating but being in hospitality ourselves we would expect serving staff to know the menu & be able to answer basic questions.

User

This was our second visit last night. A chefs special with Robin Gill. Daniel Clifford was there too, my favourite chef.

We had the kitchen table, so you could see everything!! It was very a very calm kitchen!!

It was our 3rd wedding anniversary, we were treated really special.

The staff, the food, the experience was amazing, and seeing Daniel Clifford was a bonus, what a lovely guy!!

We will definitely be paying the Flitch of Bacon again!!!

User

Had a fab meal, the food is excellent it did not only have beautiful presentation the flavours and combinations was on point. I glad they r not based in Brentwood as this place would be my guilty pleasure. Defo would recommend and would go again. Service was excellent our waitress was very polite and attentive.

User

Friendly and accommodating staff. Nice atmosphere. My dishes were tailor made for my allergies without fuss and each dish was delicious.

User

Faultless lunch. Incredible flavours and textures. Excellent service from attentive and knowledgeable young staff. The only reason I believe this restaurant hasn’t won a star is possibly the cheap pub cutlery and the very average wine list.

I will go again at some point, it’s a shame it’s a good 40 minutes drive away. Mr Clifford, please open in West Essex (Loughton ideally )

Merry Christmas and a HNY 2018,

JJNewman

User

Exceptional.

A la Carte menu was excellent. I had the rabbit followed by the pork, finished of with cheese and biccies. The birthday girl had the tomatoes followed by the pollock and chicken and the chocolate for afters.

The wine, the amuse bouchée, the palate cleansers, the service....I could go on, but will just say it was well worth it.

User

As an Essex boy, I’m thrilled to see that there is an amazing new fine dining option in the county - thanks to Tim Allen and his fabulous team. Fantastic, creative and delicious food plus stylish, comfortable bedrooms - heaven !

User

We only went for a couple of drinks, we sat out in the garden with the sun beaming down what a nice place. Can’t wait to go back everyone really friendly .

User

We loved the food, excellent presentation and great food techniques! Waitress could have been a bit friendlier but we all have bad days!

User

Popped in for a drink as walking in the surrounding area. Hadn't realised the pub had been changed. Tasting menu looked nice (competitive prices) and work done to the beer garden has improved it no end. Husband was disappointed that they no longer do draft ales, as the flitch was the best place around for real ale however the staff explained why and also future plans.

User

Food was amazing, couldn’t fault it and the rhubarb cheesecake was to die for. Only complaint was one of the staff spent the whole night chatting, leaving the 2 other waiting staff run ragged. This meant that service wasn’t as good overall as our previous visit.

User

We went for mother’s day and although the food alone deserves a 5 we were really let down by the service and timings so I feel I can only give it a 3. A meal is about the whole experience afterall.

We booked for 4.30, we had a 4&5yr old with us, and didn’t get seated until 5.20! The delays didn’t stop there. Service throughout was extremely slow meaning we were still sat at the table waiting for our desserts at 7pm?!?! 1hr 40 mins for 2 courses is too long. Especially when we weren’t asked during that time if we needed anymore drinks. We had to ask for bread to go with the starters despite being asked if we would like some and it offered to the tables around us, it felt like we were being ignored.

While waiting for desserts our glasses were cleared, no further drinks offered, and it made us feel as if they wanted our table for the next booking when we weren’t lingering and would have been happy to be out of there by that time.

As I said the food was amazing, the tastiest food I have had for a long time but they NEED to work on the service and timings

User

Food was delicious but on the whole an “ok” experience. My husband and I chose to dine for our anniversary and being local residents we thought it would make a change from booking a restaurant in London, however we left feeling disappointed.

For an establishment that markets itself as being above the standards of a run of the mill restaurant we felt that the service was incredibly slow and saw three members of staff run off of their feet for the entire evening. The staff were incredibly pleasant but could not cater for the covers within the restaurant with ease. Our table was booked for 9.15pm and we waited 45 minutes for starters- our mains arriving 30 minutes later; not ideal for so late in the evening.

We are more disappointed by the fact that we really wanted to love our evening there and frequent often but unfortunately that hasn’t been the case. For residents who were able to walk to their booking we are left feeling unsure as to whether we would return.

User

The restaurant is newly decorated, very nice inside, we had the chefs table so we could see in the kitchen. The food was nice and the kitchen was well run by the head chef and his team. The staff were very nice. We went for the taster menu as we were told it was worth the money. Including drinks as well, would not advise as over priced for what we got. Plus the champagne was not chilled and slightly flat which for this type of restaurant you would not expect. When we got the bill they had added loads of extras which made the price half again and we had not been informed of these charges. It cost more than claridges, merchants in the city, and places like le pont de la tour. If the food had been amazing we could have accepted it but it was not, so we would not recommend as not worth what they charge, we will not return so very disappointed as had such expectations

User

The proprietor seemed enthusiastic about his sale of why he was charging more for the experience of eating at this venue ( fine dining), as we sat outside with

Our dog ,requiring bar snacks ,,,,, which were unavailable, also the thought of fine dinning, also unavailable, outside we were given a bowl of peanuts, our pint of house beer and a bottle of cider which came to an an amount that I could only explain as remortgage of £12.40 ....

We only stayed for one drink as couldn't aford another, let alone find dining !! But lovely place, good hosts, but bit pricey! Bring your prices down for your locals and we will frequent more often and and eat well xx
