The Mk5 Golf GTi is a great car in standard guise but can be transformed into an amazing car with a simple upgrade or two. The 2.0 TFSI engine is a cracking unit pushing out 197bhp as standard but load up a Stage 1 remap and the car is transformed with around 250bhp on tap and up to 260 lb/ft. We've all had one of those moments when we genuinely needed more power like these guys did.
This amazing SkyRunner was developed in the UK and uses a three cylinder 1.0 EcoBoost engine running at 123bhp. These punchy little engines can be taken to 150bhp+ with a simple remap and to over 200bhp with some more extensive engine modifications.

Air filters are particularly important to turbocharged engines. Without an air filter dirt and debris can enter the turbo causing anything from premature wear on the turbo and engine to total catastrophic failure.
Upgraded cone filters can also come with their own problems, the main one being heat soak if the filter is unshielded and badly placed leaving it sucking in hot air directly from the engine bay until you are driving at speed.
We recommend where possible that a high quality cold air induction kit such as our Forge KONA is used when looking to improve your induction set up.

One of this weeks interesting builds was this Garrett GT2260V brought into us by Car Throttle.
Removed from a BMW 330D this standard VNT turbo was helping the engine push out around 230bhp.
Our engineers stripped the unit down and worked their magic which included fitting a K24 billet compressor wheel which is lighter and allows a much higher air flow capacity, a 20 degree cutback on the turbine wheel to increase the turbine wheel flow capability, opened the backplate recess ...and profiled the compressor cover.
With all this done the turbo left our factory as a MDX642 Hybrid capable of pushing out over 300bhp.
We are eagerly awaiting for the final power results from Car Throttle once they have them.
