This is an interesting article about social media and its impact on the dance culture, the sorts of goals and aims students set as a result, and even on how it can shape perceptions of what is 'good' or valued: https://www.dancemagazine.com/instagram-d ance-2585216791.ht…

In dance science we often build on the work of sport scientists - but the relationship works both ways! http://www.abc.net.au/…/afl-players-usi ng-ballet-f…/9840736…

Being a dance scientist doesn't just mean conducting studies - take part in them where you can to support your fellow researchers and academics! If you are a parent and work in the performing arts, take part in this study conducted by Birkbeck University - an important contribution to literature and understanding around being a working mum or dad in this sector https://bbk.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9yG ZUacVSyhnA45

An article from Dance Magazine last year asked "Are you too obsessed with dance?" (https://www.dancemagazine.com/obsessed-w ith-dance-246792796…) Well, there is such a thing as obsessive passion and it can tested and measured! If you think you are a bit obsessive about dance - or dance science! - have a read of this great blog explaining how to get a bit more harmonious (or healthy!) passion in your life! https://www.psychologytoday.com/…/how-i ncrease-your-harmoni…

Congratulations to recent MSc graduate Sofia Saukkonen who has set up a beautiful website. Sofia's aim is to translate research findings into accessible articles for dancers and dance teachers. Sofia is not only a dance scientist, but also a trained dancer and qualified physiotherapist, so she has a wealth of experience and knowledge to share. Her first posts explain the area of dance science, and how to stretch safely and effectively. And all of her posts are available in English and Finnish!
