In preparing for this solo exhibition, Michael Eden found inspiration from the stories of objects in Waddesdon's collection. His aim was to tell their narratives; who made them, how were they made, for whom and why.
There are only a few weeks left to see Form & Transform. Make sure you don't miss out and join us before 21 October to see this exhibition before it ends.
Free exhibition with grounds admission, in the Coach House Gallery at the Stables. Open Wednesdays-Sundays, 11-5. https://waddesdon.org.uk/whats-on/michael -eden/

#WildlifeWednesday post of the day!
Waddesdon Aviary is proud to support the silent forest campaign for Southeast Asian songbirds. Songbirds in Southeast Asia are threatened by an excessive and culturally rooted consumption for trade, primarily for singing competitions and the pet trade. This is why Waddesdon Aviary is maintaining 4 of the songbirds highlighted by the Silent forest campaign!

#WildlifeWednesday post of the day!
#Didyouknow Around one third of the species in the Aviary are of conservation concern. The numbers of Rothschild's myna in the wild fell to just six birds in 2001. In 2011, four females bred at Waddesdon were sent to Bali to improve the gene pool of the captive population for release. #WildlifeWednesday

We visit Waddesdon many times throughout the year to walk in the gardens and experience the amazing upkeep of the hard working team of gardeners. In fact we came yesterday on a beautiful sunny Sunday. Visited 3 times in December to visit the amazing food stalls and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere from the stall holders and tasty food and purchased some unusual gifts, another visit to enter the house and lastly with two young grandsons to see the lights. Despite some tricky weather conditions, we thoroughly enjoyed our visits and the service received from all your staff.

We had a lovely day at Waddesdon Manor on Saturday 2nd June. We arrived just before 10am, and were on the first bus. With 3 children we made our way to Colourscape after reading reviews about very long queues, we didn't have to wait at all with being there first thing. Our baby and oldest child loved the Colourscape - middle one thought it was rubbish, husband was not so keen either.

We had prebooked to go into the house which was great (lots of rooms open), and we took a picnic as we know the food prices can be a bit steep, especially as a family of 5.

The kids love the woodland playgrounds and we all enjoyed walking around the grounds.

So my advice for a great day, is prebook what you can, arrive early and if do don't want to spend a lot on food take a picnic as there are loads of places to eat it.

User

We had a fantastic time during our visit. After reading reviews moaning about wait times for the buses etc we arrived 15mins before opening. We waited 10 minutes for the desks to open, went straight threw and onto a bus. We had a lovely hour looking round the market with hardly anyone else. Awesome house visit, loved the decorations and our children loved the trail.

We ate in the wigwam and that was the only thing that let our day down slightly, the que took about 20minutes to order (and it wasn't very long) and the chicken portion was really small for £8.50.

The light show was out of this world....amazing !!!!!

Then we had afternoon tea for dinner, which was delicious and caught the last bus back to the carpark at 6.30pm. Awesome day, cant wait to go again next year.

User

We attended one of your family cookery school days in half term and it really was fantastic fun. The day was really well organised and the team of Chefs that looked after us had thought of everything. There was a real variety of savoury and sweet goodies to cook throughout the day to suit even the fussiest of eaters. I was staggered as well when we came home carrying six huge boxes of food that we'd prepared that day. When booking our tickets I had mentioned that one of our family had a food allergy. From previous experience elsewhere often this message doesn't get passed on to the kitchens. This time however they knew immediately we arrived and had sourced a variety of ingredients for the day in advance which was such a relief. The day ended with an optional tour ( which everyone opted for ) of the current and original kitchens at Waddesdon. This was a real treat showing a mix of modern kitchens working within the constraints of a historical building. We were amazed that 15 chefs can work in such small kitchens that were originally the old servants rooms. A huge thank you again to the head chef and his team from the Spry family.

User

The staff is literally lovely: they could not believe I cycled from London to visit Waddesdon Manor and help me with my bag, offered me some water... This chateau is just gorgeous and unique on english soil. I was amazed by the condition and variety of objects / paintings on display: sèvre porcelain, boule furniture, dutch golden age paintings... I am speechless and will have to come back!

User

I absolutely love this place and spend a lot of time here with my children. It keeps children aged 4/8/10/12 amused whether we go for a few hours or all day. The playgrounds for the younger ones and my eldest is really into

Phone photography and loves the house and gardens for playing around with her photos. Staff are always polite and helpful and it’s a great family day out. Brilliant for a picnic in the summer or wrapping up for a wintery walk. Always beautiful at Christmas too. We ❤️ Waddesdon Manor.

User

Fantastic day in the house and gardens plus the amazing light show at the end. Would advise waiting to watch the show once it is properly dark. Queue for shuttle bus back to car park was a bit long but moved very quickly. All the facilities were well organised and clean and the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. We will definitely visit again in the warmer months and Christmas 2018. Thank you Waddesdon Manor.

User

Awesome Manor, beautiful rooms, got the feeling I was in 19th century, garden must be very beautiful spring/summer time unfortunately rose garden was not in bloom or other flowers apart from daffodils, family orientated place, highly recommended

User

Amazing day had by myself and family. My mum uses a walker and everyone was so kind and helpful. Special mention for jane the bus driver. Just lovley made our day with such a kind spirit. Thankyou all!

User

Amazing architecture and amazing interiors! You're even allowed to take photos - as long as you don't use flash - which so many other stately homes don't allow.

The grounds are marvelous for your picnic lunch.

Only when the office told us they close at 5:30 we didn't realise the actual house closes at 4:00, so we had time for only a glimpse of the upstairs rooms and they hurried us out by 3:55 which was a bit sad.

Well worth a visit - or two.

User

Visited 2nd June - easy parking - easy to get to the main house by coach transfer. Lovely 5 hours with visit to house (drop bags off first!) then picnic in the grounds. Not sure why any negative reviews. Recommend!

User

Loved the Manor and gardens itself but food and drink were extortionate and not good quality 2 Lattes and a small hot chocolate in paper cups, and 2 small pieces of cake cost over £15 and it took a long time to get served, I know you expect to pay over the odds in these places but you’d also expect better quality and service. Dread to think what it’s like in the busy Summer months

User

I like it, BUT at £5 for 5 items for a kids’ picnic lunch, I would expect a cheese sandwich that was slightly larger then a credit card. I have a photo to prove the size but can’t add here. It was shocking and quite frankly extracted the Michael. I shall be picnicking in future. Hurrah to the lovely lady who offered me a second credit card sized sandwich by way of compensation. Make them bigger, you won’t lose money!

User

Came on a coach trip 18/8/18 lovely place weather was good easy access from the coach to house, garden spectacular and the house only drawback was the food ordered tomato and basil soup and it was lukewarm complained but no one took any notice coffee was warm though not worth £17.00 recommend people take picnic or wait to eat at home very expensive.

User

The House and Gardens were as always very beautiful. We did book into the restaurant for the Sunday lunch as it was our Anniversary weekend. The food was very nice but the service was way too slow, taking 2 hours overall, which seemed a bit excessive just for Sunday lunch. So will definitely visit the House and Gardens again, but not the restaurant.

User

What a beautiful place but sadly on this visits that’s all I can say. The house was ¾ closed due to the Christmas Menagerie... so as we had planned for it to take us most of the afternoon to get around and look at all of the rooms we were shocked up be out in 45mins after being crammed in and herded round like cattle. Then we had to wonder around in the cold for nearly 3 hours to wait for the projection show that we were very looking forward too... 3 cold hours later the projection started... with no sound! What a load of rubbish that was... We both left very disappointed and let down for our long drive back home.

User

Dissapointed. We visited Waddesdon only to find that every single statue in the gardens was covered up and the fountains weren’t working. I could understand this when we had the beast from the easy but its much warmer now and had I have been paying £19.80 WOW!!!! Id have been understandably annoyed as it was I have NT membership. The house itself was very nice and your staff very informative. The only other thing that let you down was the gift shop. It needs a little more Waddesdon and a little less National Trust. I mean where are the nice artist impression prints of Waddesdon etc. Selling expensive wine and cheese may appeal to the ponse brigade but you could make more money by appealing to the masses. The week before I visited Osbourne House on the Isle of Wight and I have to say that it was much better organised, cheaper and I wasn’t followed around by security. Will i be back to Waddesdon? Yes but only as I have NT membership. Would I pay £19.80 if I didn’t? HELL NO!!!

User

Absolutely disgusted with Waddesdon Manor. I was informed that dogs were not allowed on the bus - no problem so i paid my £10 but I was not informed at that time that it was a 15 min uphill walk across muddy fields. When I went back and explained that because of my unicompartmental osteoarthritis in my knees I was unable to make the walk under those conditions and that I wanted a refund. One member of staff said no problem they just needed the receipt. I went and got the receipt and went back. There another jobsworth member of staff refused to refund the money. I will be contacting the managing director Simon Wales in due course. I paid the same amount of money as those people who were supplied a free shuttle service but was not afforded the same service and paid £10 for nothing except 10 mins in the car park - absolutely disgusting.

User

we visited today. the total lack of managerial staff in catering stood out. we visited the stables and one girl was making waffles, making pancakes, serving coffee and working tills. we waited 15 mins and the queue didn't move so went to the cafe. it took them 15 mins to take our order as table service. all we wanted was tea to get warm. another 20 minute wait to get the tea. total disorganised. take your own flask and sandwiches😠😠😬😬

Make them bigger, you won’t lose money!

HELL NO!!!

I paid the same amount of money as those people who were supplied a free shuttle service but was not afforded the same service and paid £10 for nothing except 10 mins in the car park - absolutely disgusting.

we visited today. the total lack of managerial staff in catering stood out. we visited the stables and one girl was making waffles, making pancakes, serving coffee and working tills. we waited 15 mins and the queue didn't move so went to the cafe. it took them 15 mins to take our order as table service. all we wanted was tea to get warm. another 20 minute wait to get the tea. total disorganised. take your own flask and sandwiches😠😠😬😬
