Servicing tasks were carried out on the MAN SV and Land Rover fleet, Straight forward operations that give valuable hands on training for the relatively new to trade - class 4 Vehicle Mechanics (VMs) as they progress in trade to Class 3 VMs.
The work and training ranged from valve clearances and the replacing of alternator belts, to using the ‘MANCAT’ diagnostics system for MAN SV fault finding.

Captain Griffin (ROSO) swam the “Red Bull Neptune Steps” in Glasgow on Sat, 23 Mar 19 – representing 103Bn REME and completing the event for ‘Reach for Health’ who recently signed the Armed Forces Covenant and offer service veterans classes in health and wellbeing.
There was roughly 600 hardy souls who braved the Scottish icy waters at Glasgow’s Maryhill’s Locks, sadly not all finished, there was also 3000 spectators cheering each competitor through which was much needed.
The... event consists of a 420 meter swim and various obstacles located at each lock gate such as rope climbs, climbing walls and cargo nets.
Captain Griffin prepared for the event by having ice baths and cold showers since December, even purchasing a family sized inflatable pool for the garden of which during Christmas leave spent one minute in the water (without wetsuit) and then 10 pull ups over progressive time periods. The motivation being to get comfortable at being uncomfortable!
The preparation paid off as the moment he plunged into the Scottish water with a wetsuit it felt manageably uncomfortable for the first few minutes!), he did not set off particularly quick as from his previous experiences the cold encourages loss of controlled breathing during exercise. Once Captain Griffin hit the first obstacle, a cargo net his breathing felt controlled, by the second obstacle however the use of arms in the cold water plus pulling himself over locks begun to take its toll but he was able to manage a good solid rhythm and completed the race in a time which earned him 19 place out of 38.
Captain Griffin intends to enter again next year with a team from 103Bn REME.
