PRESS RELEASE Air Cadet Squadron Celebrate Achievements
The evening of the 26th March brought a celebration on the achievements of Air Cadet’s from 2017 to friends and family members of 115 (Peterborough) Squadron Air Cadets at the Squadron’s award ceremony.
... Held at St Jude’s church in Netherton, Peterborough, the annual awards ceremony sees numerous cadets being awarded trophies for their achievements and accomplishments. With over 60 VIPs, staff members, civilian committee members and friends and family, the church was filled to the rafters.
The evening was kicked off by a video detailing the adventures of 115 Squadron during 2018, taking a look back on their activities and community support. There were then presentations from a few of the cadets about the opportunities they had the privilege of experiencing within the Air Cadet Organisation.
Officer Commanding of 115 (Peterborough) Squadron, Flight Lieutenant Karen Barfield RAFAC then moved the evening to the formal awards.
‘Throughout their time with the air cadets, they have numerous challenges to overcome and the trophies are awarded for various different criteria, giving all cadets the opportunity to be nominated for a specific award or to be awarded one. There are trophies such as the ‘Golden Boot’ for best uniform, the best team trophy, the best recruit, then best cadet and for our older cadets, best Non Commissioned Officer (NCO). We also recognise staff who give up their free time to make the Squadron a success, with a trophy being awarded for the member of staff making the best overall contribution’ Flight Lieutenant Barfield RAFAC commented after the ceremony.
We have several VIP’s who support the squadron, in various roles and capacities and they were invited along to the ceremony as a chance to see how their support can enable the cadets to fulfil their roles. Amongst some of the VIP’s in attendance on the night where Councillor John Fox, Mayor of the City of Peterborough, Station Commander RAF Wittering, Group Captain Tony Keeling OBE RAF and Wing Commander Anthony Kelly RAFAC. They were all on hand to award one if not two awards to deserving cadets on the evening.
In total, 17 trophies were presented to cadets over the evening. The Squadron motto is Aspire, Achieve, Excel and the cadets who were both nominated for and awarded trophies have certainly lived up to that motto.

PRESS RELEASE Welcome to the Squadron!
Monday 12th March at the 115 (Peterborough) Air Cadet Squadron brought fifteen bright new faces to embark on their journey in becoming fully fledged members of the Air Training Corps (ATC).
... These young and hopeful recruits began their first day of the initial training that will prepare them for life as an Air Cadet. This will involve months of meticulous study, ice-breakers, team building and uniform preparation. At the end of all the hard work and dedication, the recruits can look forward to celebrating their achievements at the ‘Passing Out’ Parade. There they can enjoy the chance to parade in front of proud family members, staff and fellow cadets to receive their First Class Cadet Classification Badge.
Over the course of their training, the new recruits will learn many new skills including airmanship, leadership, history of the Royal Air Force, care of uniform and the discipline of the drill. Accomplishing their training through personal discipline, dedication, teamwork and a positive attitude, these fifteen recruits, as young as 12 will get a taste of what it takes to be an Air Cadet and see all the many opportunities the Air Training Corps can offer following their enrolment day.
The Commanding Officer of the squadron, Flight Lieutenant Karen Barfield RAF AC found that the day “marked a wonderful beginning to the journey of these fifteen new recruits in becoming an Air Cadet and wished them all the best in embracing all that there is to learn and experience with the 115 Squadron and the Air Training Corps as a whole.”
