Today we paid our respects to Jim Auton a true hero.

Tomorrow 1260 Sqn will be attending the funeral of Mr Jim Auton MBE to pay our respects to this remarkable man RIP. The funeral takes place at Newark Parish Church at 1300 with his burial at the Cemetery afterwards. I also understand there will be a flypast by an aircraft from Waddington subject to the weather being suitable.

On Saturday CWO Olivia Wightman travelled to RAFC Cranwell to represent Central & East Region in the Corps Senior Girls Netball Competition.
This competition saw them face off against the other regions in the country, except for Scotland & Northern Ireland who unfortunately couldn’t put a team together.
Central and East won two out of the four matches including a 16-8 victory over the eventual winners, London & South East Region. Carrying on the theme from last weekend, the... girls came away with a silver medal and their regional representative blues.
Congratulations Cadet Warrant Officer, Hockey next?

Last Saturday 8 of our girls traveled to RAF Digby to participate in the annual Trent Wing Girls’ 5-a-side Football Competition.
In our first game against 1403 we won 2-1. The second game was against 2292 with the final score being 1-0 to us. We came into our own against 195 with the final score being 7-0. Finally we played 303 and after a close game we finally cemented our position as league 2 winners and our place in the knoc...kouts with a 1-0 win.
Entering the knockout stage we played the runners up of league 1, 17 Sqn, and won 2-1. Then came our 3-0 win over 2160 which meant we were headed for the finals, now all we needed to do was wait and see if we were playing 2222 or 1208.
A 5-0 win for 2222 meant we headed off against them in the final game. It was a tough match but 2222 managed to win 3-1 after some great saves by their goalkeeper.
This overall fantastic effort from all members of the team and some amazing goals from CWO Wightman and Cdt Cousins combined with FS Darby refusing to let many ball past her meant we came 2nd overall. This is the highest out Squadron has ever placed in this competition. Well done girls!

1260 Sqn were saddened to hear of the recent passing of Mr Jim Auton MBE, an RAF veteran and familiar face at many of the local services we attend.
Jim was a highly decorated hero surviving 37 missions, including bombing heavily defended oil refineries at Ploesti and working for SOE dropping secret agents and weapons to resistance groups in Poland and Yugoslavia, and was part of the Warsaw Air Bridge mission.
Jim does not have family so all are invited to his funeral to ensur...e this wonderful man gets the send off he deserves. It will be held on Thur 6th Feb at 1pm, at St Mary Magdalene Parish Church Newark.
A huge thank you for your service Mr Auton, from all at 1260 Newark and District Air Cadets.
Per Ardua ad Astra.

Today 40 cadets and 7 staff members marched along side veterans, serving members of the Armed Forces (Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry and 32 (Minden) Battery of the 16th Regiment Royal Artillery), Newark Army & Sea cadets, CCF cadets from the Magnus School as well as St. John’s Ambulance cadets, members of the emergency services and civic dignitaries.
The laying of the wreaths was followed by a Church service and a march by through the town square. The cadets were by far the largest contingent and were a credit to the Squadron.
We will remember them @ St Mary Magdalene Church, Newark on Trent
