One of our ex cadets, Flying Officer Ben Stubbings proves that hard work and commitment with the Air Cadets does allow you to follow your dreams! Ben joined us at 13 with a dream of joining the Royal Air Force, and left us with the rank of Cadet Flight Sergeant and a gliding scholarship under his belt, as well as flying in Red 1 of the Red Arrows over Buckingham Palace for the Cadet Forces 100th Anniversary.

Many thanks to Emily, Shane and Mark from Malton Fire Station for hosting a visit from 1323 Ryedale RAF Air Cadets.
Despite all being out on call throughout the night and earlier that day, they took the time to talk us through some fire safety tips for at home, demonstrated some of their equipment and even let the cadets get kitted up and practice using the water hoses!

Today, Cadets from 1323 Squadron joined 2394 and 110 Squadrons for a visit to 645 Volunteer Gliding School at RAF Topcliffe to undertake Blue Wings aviation ground school training. The day included a walk round of the now decommissioned Vigilant glider, a classroom session on principles of flight and basic gliding mechanics, a tour of the airfield to revise the features found on an airfield, and practical time spent on the Viking and Vigilant simulators. As part of the RAF Ai...r Cadets progressive training syllabus, cadets must undertake ground school training and have received a flight at a Gliding School or Air Experience Flight. Today, Cadets and Staff from 1323 Sqn supported the Royal British Legion at Malton War Memorial for their annual Remembrance Day Service and Parade. Wet weather didn't put off the Squadron from having a good turnout. After the parade, Officer Commanding 1323 Sqn, Flight Lieutenant Steve Bean said "The Cadets today have been brilliant, although a large number of them are relatively new only starting with us in September, and only receiving their uniform this week, they were ve...ry smart and well turned out. Myself and the rest of the staff would like to thank them for their commitment today, and for the effort they've put in, remembering and honouring those who gave up everything to allow us the freedom to do things like this." As our resident photographer, Flight Sergeant Bell was parading, we would like to thank Brendan Swaine, Harry Green and Sarah Foots for providing the attached images. On Friday, Cadets from Ryedale and Easingwold Squadrons were visited by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service community outreach team. The evening was focused around the ambulance, with cadets learning how the service operates, and what capabilities the ambulance teams have whilst on duty. The cadets were also given a talk on Community First Responders and the kit and expectations of someone volunteering as a responder. A massive thank you must go to Donald and Ali from Yorkshire Ambulance Service for providing us with an entertaining and informative evening. AIR CADET VOLUNTEER RECEIVES TOP AWARD
On 18th October, Flight Sergeant Colin Bell a member of staff at 1323 (Ryedale) Squadron ATC, travelled to Royal Air Force College Cranwell to attend the presentation ceremony for the RAF Command 3 Star Deputy Commanders Team Commendation.
The Team Commendation, which was awarded as part of this years’ New Years Honours awards was given to the RAF Air Cadets Media Team for their outstanding work and promotion of the RAF Air Cadets, prim...arily during their 75th Anniversary year, and their ongoing behind the scenes work for the RAF Air Cadets.
The presentation of the award, which took place at the iconic College Hall Officers Mess at Cranwell was presided by Air Vice Marshal W James, Air Officer Commanding 22 Group Royal Air Force. After the Commendation and citation were read out, AVM James presented the Commendation to Mrs Denise Parker, Head of RAF Air Cadets Media Communications, with the rest of the team looking on.
Colin, a member of the team as Corps Photographer for the North of England, provided media cover for high profile events during the 75th Anniversary year, including the ATC75 Torch Relay from John O’ Groats to Lands End, Commandant Air Cadets, Air Commodore Dawn McAfferty’s Charity Wing Walk and numerous local Squadron events, parades and public engagements.
Colin said of the award, “To be part of such an important team within the RAF Air Cadets is an honour and a privilege, and to be recognized as part of this team with such a prestigious award is something I would never have thought possible. To be named on the Commendation and citation, along with the rest of the team was an unexpected surprise. This was a huge proud moment for the team and myself, and if it wasn’t for the efforts of my Wing Officer Commanding, Wing Commander Steve Wiggins in pushing me to apply for the role, and for Denise Parker, Head of Media Comms at Cranwell, for having faith in my abilities, I wouldn’t be part of something this special, so a massive thank you must be given to them.”
The RAF Air Cadets are always looking out to recruit new volunteers, if you have an interest in aviation, or not, it doesn’t matter, but would like to be part of a leading uniformed youth organization which can offer a huge amount of opportunities for cadets and volunteers alike, please contact your local Squadron, details can be found at www.raf.mod.uk/aircadets
