Went on a girly weekend and decided to find somewhere local to visit for the day on our way back. We found a brochure in our cabin for this place, and what a great day we had. It was only £5 per adult to get in (£2 extra if there is a event on) also your ticket is valid for a year so can return as many times as you like free of charge. The house was so pretty and from the moment we walked in there was a guide (Bryan) there that offered to show us around and explain things and he was very helpful. There were written cards all around the house in each room to give you some more information about who lived there and what happened in each room, and you could try on costumes and have a rummage around with all the old artifacts that were placed around. The gardens are lovely with each plant explaining what they were used for and at the back of the house there was a cafe with lovely friendly staff, and a who made us a great pork, stuffing and apple sauce cob, the house is not huge so you would probably only spend a few hours there, but we enjoyed it very much. They also had a some tents outside where people dressed up from the 1600's and did a show and tell which was quite interesting however we did get there a bit later in the day so missed the cooking. Would recommend for a day out with or without the kids

Well worth a visit this is are 5 time , Lovely ladies who work there .

User

We only found this place recently and attended a children's pirate event. Today we were back again for the bear hunt. What a beautiful and brilliant place this is. We all love it here.

User

Visited yesterday. Wonderful house, really pleasant and informative staff.

User

Visited today to watch the Gunpowder plot, absolutely brilliant, bought the whole thing to life. Top notch re-enactment, very professionally delivered. Changes to the house really make a difference as visited a few years ago before these had taken place. Gardens would be delightful in the spring and summer although wrong time of year to see them at their best, but still nice on a crisp sunny day in November. Tea room is lovely and rustic with plenty to choose from. All in all will definitely be visiting again especially as the admission price includes 1 years membership allowing free entry for a year on a none event day

User

The house is a gem of a building. The staff will do their best to answer any questions you have. The history is explained on a free to use listening guide. Families can picnic in the grounds and play hide and seek around the hedges and trees. Kids love the maze. Smell the herbs! Read in a quiet corner. Imagine yourself lord or lady. See the four poster bed. Turn the cooking spit. I volunteer here sometimes, and look forward to seeing some of you after the reopening.

User

My 5yr son & myself visited today for the mornings "pirate day" dress up session, it was our first visit ever to this house. Wow, what a day, i very nearly changed my mind about coming due to the drizzly rain but boy am i glad i did. The staff/volunteers were all friendly and willing to help, & those that were part of theme in costume, looked fantastic & were superb in their roles, every one of them, engaging with every child! The activities were fun from pirate weapon tales to sword fighting & real canon/musket firing! I cannot thank you enough for making a little boys day with such a wonderful experience he was smiling all the time. We paid £11.45 for our tickets which are 12mth admissions to these lovely house & grounds, we will return many times and especially looking forward to the "were on a bear hunt" theme day. xx
