For the last 4 months members of the Regiment have been deployed on Amphibious Task Group (ATG) 18 onboard Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) Lyme Bay.
This deployment saw the Regiment’s Soldiers conducting ship to shore ops where the build and deployment of a causeway to get troops and vehicles to shore.
During the 4 months various equipment was damaged. This saw the 2 deployed REME Shipwrights Cpl Williams and Cfn Harrington repairing various equipment and the Dock within the sh...ip proving themselves vital assets throughout.
Exercises were conducted during this deployment such as Ex Albanian Lion, Saif serea 3 and Qatari Falcon. These Exercises were demanding due to extreme climate. All members of the Regiment worked alongside the RFA to go above and beyond as a team to ensure the deployment was an overall success. For the last 4 months Members of the Regt have been deployed on ATG 18 onboard RFA Lyme Bay.
Sgt Drummond was awarded a National Contingent Command Commendation for his and the deployments efforts during Saif Sareea 3.
During a Regimental dinner Lt Lawley, the RLC detachment commander, was able to present Captain D Buck OBE a framed 17 Port and Maritime Regiment t-shirt as he retires on completion of this deployment after 42 years in the RFA.
An overall success for the Regiment, RFA and all that took part.

Yesterday, Soldiers from the Regiment delivered Christmas gifts to Southampton General Hospital’s children’s charity offices. The presents go towards the sick children whom will be too ill to spend their Christmas’s at home with their families.
Both Pte Thomas (51 Sqn) and Pte White (52 Sqn) organised the collection of the gifts from friends and family as well from the Regiment, whilst also liaising with the Hospital Charity Offices for delivery.
... Well done!!

Last night 51 Sqn hosted a formal dinner evening with partners to mark the end of an extraordinary year. An excellent experience supported by the Corps of drums and pianist from the Corps band as well as a piper from 2 Scots. Thank you to the master chef who prepared an outstanding meal, soldiers from 53 Sqn who served it and the organising committee led by Cpl MacPhee-Peace. A truly fantastic evening.

Four members of the Regiment competed in the Inter-Corps Orienteering Championship representing their respective Corps over the weekend. The competition consisted of a night event on Saturday evening followed by a day event on Sunday morning. Congratulations go to WO2 Southwick who was part of the RLC runner up team in the Men’s Long event and to Maj Baker (AGC) who was the winner of the W40+ day event. The RLC team came overall runners up out of the eight Corps teams.

Soldiers from across the Regiment who make up Operational Hygiene (OH) Troop currently deployed on the NATO exercise Trident Juncture in Norway have been busy providing real life support to over 3000 soldiers from Britain, Denmark, Poland and USA. They have worked hard to keep the mobile bath and laundry unit (MBLU) working throughout the deployment.

Spending the weekend with our French allies from 519e GTM in La Rochelle whilst they are on their annual exercise - the Regt Ops Captain has been helping them out with a casualty serial today. Well equipped, well trained and motivated - an impressive unit. They will be paying a return visit to Marchwood in 2019 - we have challenged them to football and volleyball competitions (their favourite sports)

The first Ex Trident Juncture recovery vessel has been loaded in Norway. Soldiers from the Regiment currently deployed on the MV Eddystone in Norway conducted the first recovery run of British Exercise kit back to the UK. Over 7 hours, the 10 man detachment loaded and lashed 1500 Lims of Kit and Vehicles onto the vessel in order for it to sail back to the UK and be discharged back to its units.

Yesterday the Regiment’s cross-country team took part in the RLC Championships which were held in Tidworth. As the Major Unit defending Male Champions the pressure was on to retain our title but the guys delivered in emphatic style beating some strong competition from 27 Regt and 1 Regt.
Congratulations also to the female team who put in a solid performance and in particular to WO2 Steen who finished 2nd in the Female Masters Category. Fantastic effort from all involved.

Congratulations to LCpl Rigby who last week played for the Army Women’s football team against their German counterparts in a match of Remembrance. There was a crowd of 6,000 to watch the match which was played at Notts County’s ground. She then participated in the Army football roadshow at Bolton F.C where they were able to meet the players and was invited onto the pitch as part of the Guard of Honour prior to their home match against Swansea City.

It was great to see so many members of the public turn out yesterday to support Remembrance Sunday at all seven locations at which the Regiment paraded. Well done to all involved - you did the Regiment proud. Here are just some of the highlights:

On Saturday afternoon, LCpl Hylands from the gym took part in a Remembrance 10km event in Portsmouth. Despite the horrendous conditions he managed to finish in an impressive 9th place in a competitive field that had a large representation from the armed forces community. This will be his final event in 17 Regiment colours as he now posts away to be a PTI in the Royal Navy. We wish him all the best and thank him for his work here in Marchwood.

I was attending the steam engineering portion of my A3 when we rebadged from RASC and RE to RCT. Posted back from the "T's" and spent my time in 471 Troop, 52 Port Sqn on various tugs, landing craft, GS Launch Barnaby Rudge etc. Did two tours in Aden and Salalah, One in Bahrain, one with Antrim Troop, 17 Port Regiment, attached to 65 Squadron RCT. Final act after re-establishing the Marchwood Sub Aqua Club was to lead a diving expedition to Gibraltar and Morocco. Finished in 1978 and jointed BUOTC and spent two weeks with 10 Port Sqn, finally commissioned into 131 Independent Cdo Sqn RE. The Regiment was a great training ground for some great people of all trades.
