19Th Regiment Royal Artillery - The Scottish Gunners

WO2 McMullin, Sgt Teasdale and Sgt Venter were honoured to attend a service of remembrance held earlier today, to honor the six British Army Soldiers who lost their lives on September 9th 2004 when the Lynx helicopter they were travelling in hit power lines between Nameste and Brno in the Czech Republic. The Soldiers, from 1 Army Air Corps and 12th Regiment Royal Artillery, were taking part in Exercise Flying Rhino when the accident happened. Members of the Czech Airforce hold a ceremony each year to commemorate lost comrades. Capt Doug Loose whom many of you will remember, was on board that day. A successful Royal Artillery Autumn Meet at North Hants Golf Club. With two of our Scottish Gunners coming away with silverware. Next up the Royal Artillery Championships and the final of the Holloway Trophy later this month. ūüŹīů†Āßů†ĀĘů†Ā≥ů†Ā£ů†Āīů†ĀŅūüŹĆūüŹĽ‚Äć‚ô āÔłŹWell done SSgt Campbell and Sgt Ramage.

Our Pipes and Drums are doing us proud. Seen here with some Highland Games athletes, they performed a set in a huge valley in the mountains Kyrgyzstan, beside hundreds of yurt tents, in front of a crowd of athletes and spectators and the Presidents of both Turkey and Kyrgyzstan. 9 of our JTACs have deployed to the Czech Republic to take part in Exercise AMPLE STRIKE. This 2 week Exercise is part of their training for future deployments. ūüŹīů†Āßů†ĀĘů†Ā≥ů†Ā£ů†Āīů†ĀŅ

Last week 28/143 Battery’s Section Commander and JNCOs ran a series of Command Task Challenges for the Battery.
Challenges included moving a dummy gun across a series of obstacles, a tyre based numbers puzzle, and finding parts of Humpty Dumpty hidden around camp based on cryptic clues.

The majority of our Regiment are a couple of days in to summer leave, the remainder are busy over in Estonia ūüá™ūüá™ and will make up for it when they‚Äôre back ūüėĀ.

An action packed week in The Scottish Gunners ended with a cracking Inter Bty PT competition ūüėÖ Congratulations to 5 Bty on winning and enjoy your leave.
This week also saw the Regimental football team demolish 5Bn Reme 5-1 and the Regimental Rugby League 9s squad made it through to the semi finals of the 9s competition at Larkhill ‚öĹÔłŹūüŹČ Well done to both teams.

On Monday 28/143 Battery (Tombs’s Troop) commemorated the actions of Major Tombs’s and Lieutenant Hills who were awarded Victoria Crosses for gallantry displayed during an action on the 9th of July 1857.
The celebration included physical challenges in the gym, a football competition, and a cake served with dinner. #WeAreNato #thescottishgunners

Earlier this week we said farewell to 176 (Abu Klea) Battery Royal Artillery as they resubordinated to 26th Regiment Royal Artillery, The Divisonal Fires Regiment for the British Army. We remember Sergeant ‚ÄėPidge‚Äô Wilkinson of the #ScottishGunners who was killed in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, on this day in 2007. Our thoughts are with his family and his friends across the Army and Veteran communities.
