Sometimes prevention is better than a cure. A good reminder that help might be in your own hands..
NOT exactly first aid to be done at home... But a great way of keeping a young child out of the operating theatre!
No catch.. Dry Drowning.... It's worth reading & remembering.....
New ambulance standards for dispatch of an ambulance are being introduced. This should mean that the RIGHT asset is dispatched to the casualty. When calling the emergency service, you will now be asked...
Is the patient breathing? Is the patient conscious? Tell me what's happened.
... For life-threatening issues the ambulance will be dispatched immediately, but for other issues the controller will now have 4 minutes (previously 1 min) to decide what the best response will be... So, for example, next time a call is made for a patient who has had a stroke, an ambulance will be dispatched instead of a paramedic on a bike!
See the attached, which has some short video clips to see the new procedures:

This seems to be a great use of the sometimes slightly controversial drones. Especially as ambulance despatch procedures have also just (on 13th July) changed to focus on those needing CPR!

Are you off on holiday soon? Hopefully this information will not be needed! - but don't forget that 112 is recognized & used to contact the emergency services in around 100 countries worldwide - Including all members of the EU (who sponsored the project). To check the full list, or to find out more, see: https://en.wikipedia.org/w…/112_(emerge ncy_telephone_number)
1st Aid... prevention is better than cure...Should you wear a cycle helmet or not?.... Err... Yep.
Did you know?? That some AED cabinets can contain VERY useful BLS (Basic Life Support) tools.... Like... Tough cut scissors, Razors, Face shields & Gloves... & non essential, but useful wipes too... 1st Aid Responders also uses the IPAD AED as our preferred training device :)
We can all use a little inspiration now & then 👍
1st Aid isn't all serious.. So Happy Easter to all.. Even to the one guy!
Febrile seizures are surprisingly common in infants & children. Good reminder of the seizure & infant recovery position... :)
MORE useful information on Stroke symptoms & diagnosis.... perhaps in FAST... T=Tongue
This just shows, you never know when, how or even why your First Aid skills may be needed....

1st Aid Responders in action!
Well done to Moira 'S' who completed a 1st Aid course with us in February this year & today had the confidence & was able to aid a friend who was having a heart attack.
Great to receive such a thankful phone call from Moira today!
This is definitely worth a few minutes of your time...
This is something that needs a bit more publicity... Learn the signs, becaurse early diagnosis can save a life! First aid for Meningitis is, of course, included in our Paedriatic & Care for Children courses...
