2048 Dagenham Squadron Raf Air Cadets

A huge thanks to 99 Squadron RAF for an amazing day with a tour of a C17.
Unfortunately due to operational reasons we weren’t able to get airborne but the cadets enjoyed the day all the same.

A busy weekend for 2048, yesterday our staff ran archery training for a number of our cadets as well as from a local squadron.
Today some of our cadets attended the Wing Sports trials with 2 being selected for the Wing Rugby team - congratulations!
Meanwhile the OC was attended a Wing Adventure Training Officers meeting discussing plans for staff and cadet courses this year.

Anyone can join the squadron as long as they are in year 8 and aged 12 or under 18 at the time of joining.

Tonight the squadron celebrates the end of 2018 with the annual dinning in night!
The cadets were served honey dew melon for starter; fish, chicken or vegetarian for main and chocolate cake for dinner!
In true military tradition the OC gave a speech and much to the adult NCOs dismay it passed the 18 minute mark! But it did highlight the fantastic achievements of the squadron over the past 12 months and our aims for the year ahead!

Turn on the ITV london to hear about Cdt Moore’s lifesaving actions

Our very own lifesaver.
Recent recruit, Cdt Ryan Moore, only completing his HeartStart first Aid Course 1 month ago sprung into action last week when his schoolmate was chocking on a cough sweet.
Along with all our new recruits, Cdt Moore attended the first aid course run by Squadron staff last month; just one of the key life skills we do at the squadron.
... Less than one month later, these skills were put into practise when Cdt Moore was in school and spotted a friend chocking. Following his training, Cdt Moore performed back blows followed by abdominal thrusts, clearing the sweet which was blocking his friend's airway.
At the squadron we are all very proud of Cdt Moore's quick and calm actions. Here we have a photo of him looking rightly proud at our annual presentation evening and his enrolment last Thursday,

•Lastnight the cadets had a fun evening cooking. The cadets were split into 2 flights and they both had the same ingredients.
•They had to prepare a starter and a main using the ingredients they had and then they had make a design using icing.
•Afterwards the staff tried the food. They described flight ones food as a “Cheesey sausagey pasta”. Flight twos food had a very different reaction; “strong” “saltiest thing Ive ever tasted” “where’s my drink” and plenty of coughs.

An international day of Remembrance for 2048 squadron.
Most of the squadron parading in the Barking service of Remembrance while others are at Ypres in Belgium paying their respects

At the squadron we focus on staff development as well as that of the cadets.
Earlier this year, because of our support of the Havering Mind charity we were able to take advantage of new courses.
It’s taken a while for the certificate to come through by our Officer Commanding, Flt Lt Richards is officially a Youth Mental Health First Aider.
... Mental Health is taken very seriously by the Government and of course the Corps and this course gives staff the knowledge to identify and assist cadets who may be experiencing difficulties.

I was a member of 2048 from 1980-85 had a great time and went on to serve 15 years in the RAF Regimemt. Would reccommend to any parents.
