Out with the old and in with the new.
12, 16 and 106 Regiments today moved formation from Joint GBAD (under the RAF) to 7 Air Defence Group (under Force Troops Command).
Some people may recognise the “new” flash, which has been dusted off from... 7 AD Brigade.

All the batteries within the Regiment were represented at the first shooting team training and selection weekend of the season.

Happy International Women’s Day.

This is going to present some challenges for NATO, having a member using Russian S400 air defence systems.
Should they be integrated into the NATO air defence plan or remain as organic defence for Turkey?

On the final day of Ex Yeoman Respect, 106 Regiment have been paying our respects to our fallen comrades of 106 Regiment (Lancashire Hussars Yeomanry) who are buried or commemorated at the Commonwealth War Grave in Athens.
We will remember them.

Today, members of 265bty on Exercise Yeoman Respect have been learning about the defence of Larissa airfield by 106 Regiment in April 1941. The group then travelled to Thermopylae where the Australian, New Zealand and British forces fought a fighting withdrawal. Thermopylae is also famous for the Battle in 480 BC between the Spartan 300 and the invading Persian Army.

Members of 106 Regt are currently out in Greece on a Battle Field Study, tracing our roots back to a Liverpool Regiment whom were all but annihilated by a rapid German advance.

Officers from 265 Bty, Maj Glencairn-Campbell, Capt De Silva and Capt Bird contributed to a Counter Unmanned Aerial Systems study day.
Alongside other members of 106 Yeomanry Regiment, 12th Regiment and 16th Regiment Royal Artillery, we were joined by civilian defence companies to analyse how drones could be employed in future contingency operations and how the UK could counter that threat with future capabilities.

It’s been a busy start to the year for members of 106 Regiment RA. Along with the usual training evenings, range weekends, sport and Adventurous Training, 4 officers and Senior NCOs from 265 Battery and 295 Battery completed the Ground Based Air Defence Warfare Officers (GWO) course.
The 6 week long course covered all aspects of the air defence trade.
The picture below is of the students and course staff, along with guest speakers from NATO. Our Air Defence brethren from Ger...many, Netherlands and the USA provided an insight into how NATO conducts Surface Based Air Defence (SBAD) operations and how the UKs current Close and General Air Defence platforms and future capability could integrate with NATO partners.

SSgt Garry Cue has just completed his Ski Foundation Level 3 course at the Army’s Adventurous Training facilities in the Bavarian Alps Germany.
People often wonder why soldiers are paid to learn to ski, it develops mountain navigation skills, teamwork, leadership, endurance and physical robustness as well as developing coping strategies to operate in cold climates. So there’s lots of relevance to combat skills.
The 2 week course included on piste training building up to off p...iste skiing skills and then a number of day tours, skinning up a mountain and skiing down. An overnight expedition sleeping in a mountain hut added further value to the course by operating more remotely.
A 5 day touring course in the civilian world would cost close to £1000.
