About 4Degrees Tap Bar & Kitchen

WE ARE a gin and beer bar, tasting room and smokehouse situated in Maidstone's most historic quarter. Serving craft beer, fine gins, local wines and cooking tasty comfort smoked food.

4Degrees Tap Bar & Kitchen Description

“WE ARE AN INDEPENDENT BAR & KITCHEN SITUATED IN THE HEART OF MAIDSTONE'S BUZZY RESTAURANT QUARTERS BETWEEN EARL STREET & THE HIGH STREET. ”

Two old friends set out to drag the "British boozer" into the 21st century by combining old school British hospitality with world-class beers, spirits and wines alongside simple, well-cooked food.

Craft Beer & Wine made in Kent are the center piece of our offering, supported well by Kentish ciders and wines with a handful of carefully selected liquors all offering something different but always priding ourselves in having the highest quality. There will not be a common brand in sight. Guest drinks will be changed regularly meaning visits to the venue will always offer variance along the drinks people will come to love.

The advent of television beckoned the end of the pub as the social epicentre. The concept of buying alcohol and taking it home was not lost on evolving supermarket owners, who responded by stacking their shelves accordingly. The publican had to think hard in order to survive as Real Ale wasn't being consumed at the same rate and best by dates were coming before barrels were emptied. The brewers countered with a longer life offer in lager but more recent trends strongly suggest that the public has re-found its taste for real ales and quality over quantity.

It might seem surprising that eating wasn't traditionally part of pub life. The earliest taverns may have supplied bread with ale, but the concept of eating out had not been born until more recent times. You eat at home and you went to the pub for your social needs. Our food offering will not be posh nosh, but classic British grub that has stood the test of time, with such items on the menu as real home made Scotch Eggs, Welsh Rabbit & Potted Crab. Always using locally sourced produce and with a mantra of “keep it simple and make it tasty”.

Put simply, our venue will look to maintain a traditional focus as the place to go - to relax, to celebrate, to talk, to drink and occasionally eat.

We’ve visited a few times now and all the staff have been really friendly and helpful. The food is lovely and the cake portions very generous. I took my 3 children for lunch today and it’s the same price as a McDonalds but so much better! It’s definitely someone not many think to go but 100% should.

We had a meal on Saturday for a friend's 30th birthday, the staff were really friendly and helpful, letting me put up decorations and hiding a cake out the back for me! The food was brilliant and the 'Monchelsea Martini' is just incredible! It was an absolutely great night and a great venue!

User

The best place in Maidstone for good quality craft beer. Excellent and friendly service, and lovely homemade food.

User

The best Welsh Rabbit in town. Lovely cake and friendly service

Just adding (12/7/18) that we had a great time watching the football and again the service was great and the burgers were amazing

User

Thank you! Had a great evening last night with our friends. All the staff were friendly, welcoming and really helpful. Food was lovely too. We'll definitely be back

User

Stopped by for coffee and cake today with my son and he loved it!

User

Some of the best food I've tasted in ages! Had the back pudding scotch egg and sausage roll, both we're incredible. Really friendly service. If you get the chance it's more than worth popping in.

Nice little bar/cafe/restaurant hidden away within Royal Star Arcade. Excellent range of Craft Ales. It was quiet but I was between sessions stopping for a pint around 5pm and no doubt somewhere nice to share time during lunch or later in the evening! Definitely will return and an added bonus to Maidstone!

User

Lovely lunch today and as someone else has already said, really great staff and very friendly. A great sandwich and coffee (thank you). Will certainly be back, maybe even for the quiz or board games evening!! Hopefully see you again soon.

Just had lunch here with my kids... kids lunch deal 12-2pm and for £3 they got a healthy home cooked meal and drink. The sausage roll my son had was clearly homemade... he loved it. Usually Maidstone is underwhelming, but I would defo recommend lunch here! Great craft beers too :)

User

I had an amazing Hen night. We had a lovely meal followed by some dancing to some great tunes all thanks to 4 degrees. The staff were super friendly and I can't wait to visit again. Thank you

Great little find after a meal out on Saturday night. Hidden away in the Star Arcade this little bar was a treat to find. Nice intimate atmosphere and cocktails (not your usual run of the mill variety) to die for. Bar staff very friendly and helpful. I hope it continues to grow in popularity coz I loved it. Not a noisy bar for youngsters perhaps but defo one for couples or groups of friends who want to be able to have a chat and giggle without having to shout at each other to be heard!!

User

Friendly staff and great bar offering a variety of different beers, flavoured vodka and large amount of different soft drinks which is fab. This bar has a good atmosphere and the owner is very welcoming. Would recommend to all, so when in Maidstone look for the Royal Star Arcade and sign for this bar. One of the best in Kent.

Excellent cocktail 🍸. Friendly staff & great atmosphere

User

Brilliant service, great quality food and cracking location. We had a lovely evening last night and all the staff were really friendly. Highly recommend a visit if you fancy a night out.

6 of us spent a very enjoyable few hours on Christmas Eve here some great beers on tap and a range of "unusual" spirits. The Damson Gin and Blackberry Whisky went down very well.

The staff were friendly and helpful and joined in dancing with us at the end of the evening.

We will return (already have once)

User

A great venue for a music event, with plenty of room for tables and dancing in the Royal Star Arcade outside the bar. Local Kentish wine at £22 per bottle and Maidstone gin is good to see too.

User

First visit to see a band I follow; band was superb as ever but very underwhelmed by the bar itself. Staff were friendly enough but lacking either experience or knowledge. Service was appalling slow and too many mistakes

Could do with some high tables or possibly a long pretend bar behind the tables in the open area for those wanting to stand to have somewhere to put your drinks.

May return for another decent band

User

It's 45 minutes since I sat down still no food and both of the pints I've ordered have not been full. All glasses are empty and nobody has noticed. Maybe I should take control and serve myself. The food smells good it's just not at my table. Update... mains came out before starters, final straw not putting up with this. I reckon the 5 star reviews are done by mates of the owners.
