50001 Youth Training Trust Description

What do we aim to achieve?

Our aim is to operate the historic lifeboat “Rotary Service” as a training ship. Working with other organisations (such as Scouts, Sea cadets & local youth groups) or direct with individuals.

Offering the chance for young & disadvantaged individuals to come on board as volunteers or just to take short training courses with qualified instructors, empowering them with the qualifications and experience to follow a career in the maritime sector.

Another busy day onboard today. Eve, Levi, Malachi, Scott (little), Scott (big) and Trevor.
Removing the starboard side seat locker in the forward cabin and the old engine room bulkhead and companionway insulation in the ready to replace with new insulation.
Scott also spent a few hours in the engine room cleaning, pics there soon!...
... We're pleased to say, pending final count the Burns night raised approximately £780. A great result, and we've booked for next year already.

As well as hosting another extremely successful burns night yesterday. Andy, Eve, Scott & Trevor worked away at more insulation onboard, removing and rerouting some of the wiring.
We don't have the final total for the burns night yet but we will soon.

An unusual mid week progress update! A huge thanks to Eve, Simon & Trevor for their assistance today. Simon spent the day working away in the forward cabin removing the seat base frame brackets.
This area once used as the survivors cabin during rescues is being repurposed as accommodation for our trainees and will have new bunks and personal storage for our trainees kit.

Having missed out on a weekends work last week due to mechanical issues with land rovers! the second week on board of the year has continued with work apace, and what an incredibly busy day it was!
Today on board Rotary Service we had volunteers Andrew, Chris, Eve, Harry, Malachi, Mark, Scott (Big), Scott (Small) & Trevor all working really hard.
In the forward cabin the locker & bench seating have been removed ready for insulation, boarding and the new bunks to be installed....
In the crew cabin we've dry-fitted the first layer of insulation. This insulation panelling will be sealed against the hull with all edges aluminium taped, Then any electrical services will be installed over this before panelling is installed and the cavity being filled with GRP strand "rockwool" type insulation. Hopefully giving us warm, dry and comfortable accommodation spaces all year round.
Meanwhile, in the area that has seen the least amount of work since the removal of the Detroit's 2 years ago. Today we've been working on the clean up and stripping out of the engine room to enable the new engines to be fitted once they have been checked over by Scania.
This included the extremely messy task of pumping out a large quantity of rainwater left behind due to leaks from the badly corroded engine removal hatch. This should hopefully be removed and off for repair soon!

We've not posted an update from the boat for a little while! Shocking behaviour partly down to volunteer availability over Christmas.
Last week we had a good team onboard with Eve, Levi, Malachi, Mark, Little Scott, Big Scott (Confusing!) & Trevor working hard to make some good progress down below on board. First having a January spring clean.
Then starting to remove the damaged wooden forward cabin locker tops, and installing some comfy foam flooring to protect our voluntee...rs from the surprising levels of cold and noise through the floor.
This week has also seen us having some fantastic news through Scott we have won a competition and have a smart new 7" Multifunction display coming which will eventually be fitted onboard.

Another fantastic day with Andy, Chris, Eve, Scott & Trevor hard at work onboard. Inside the forepeak is now ready for a coat of paint, whilst the wheelhouse roof has been prepped and sanded, the whole superstructure and deck thoroughly cleaned before priming the steel foredeck and the wheelhouse roof. After a little bit of flatting and another coat it shall be ready to paint rescue orange to match the aft cabin.
Thanks to our volunteers hard work she's really starting to look smart now and is very different to when she first arrived back at her builders yard in Lowestoft. Thanks for your continued support that makes all our work possible fund.50001.org.uk
