Buying an electric bike 7 months ago changed my life. No need to worry about hills and distance... you can just select a destination, get on the bike and follow where google maps takes you (with cycling option on). The team at 50cycles helped select the best e-bike for me and have provided great service since.

The company that likes to sell bikes but not resolve issues. My advise is buy from your local store !

When you have an issue with a bike from your local store they just fix it and your away again. If you have an issue with these guys they want you either to send the bike back (which means dismantling the bike and reboxing, nuts!) or go to your local bike shop and gets quotes before they accept the works, even then they don't get back to you!

My bike arrive with front brakes not working and nothing fitted, called 50 cycles and they really could not care. I so wished I had bought locally

Beat Bike Toba 100 mile review
=========================

I would like to see constructive criticism on the 50Cycles Review pages. The existing reviews are mostly from first time eBikers who make generally positive comments on the advantages of an eBike over a conventional bike, but do not make any critical remarks of the machine as an eBike. It would be much more informative and interesting if reviews were posted by experienced eBikers who could make some detailed technical comparisons with other eBikes they have used. Having paid quite a lot of money for an eBike, reviewers should assume the bike possesses all of the normal features of an eBike. If you bought a new car, you would not comment with surprise or pleasure that it had a synchromesh gearbox, or a fuel gauge, or brakes capable of stopping the car quickly and safely. Similarly with an eBike, you would only expect a reviewer to mention an essential feature of the eBike if it had poor functionality or usability. In this vein, I would make the following comments about the Beat Bike Toba.

Better than expected
================= :
• Range for my first battery charge was 75 miles, which is certainly more than I would want to ride in a day.
• Power assist on eco level is more than I’d expected - sufficient to climb a gentle gradient in a relaxed manner.
• Power available on higher settings is good, and allows climbing long steep hills with little exertion.

Quality as expected
=================:
• Cycle parts are of good quality - seat, wheel rims, brakes, tyres, gear shifter.
• Illuminated power selection controls.

Not as good as expected
====================:
• Motor noise is generally not too noticeable, but at low speed and when climbing it becomes intrusive.
• No water bottle bracket is supplied.
• Only one frame colour is available - if you don’t like matt black, that’s tough.
• Display unit does not provide basic information such as elapsed time, average speed, or maximum speed. This is a significant deficiency, and riders will want to fit a second computer unit.
• No tools provided - need to provide your own basic tools - seat adjustment (Allen key), brake levers (Torx key), wheel nuts (box spanner and a second open ended one to hold the lock nuts).
• Inadequate instruction manual - does not explain how to remove the wheels - how would I fix a puncture on the road? OK, the tyres are supposed to be puncture proof, but once in a while they may fail.
• Some literature is supplied only in German - a service record booklet, and the factory assembly record.
• Gear changes from 4 down to 3, 2 and 1 fail on about 25% occasions. Reselecting 4, then shifting down again usually succeeds. This may be an adjustment issue.
• Gear shifter is not illuminated and currently selected gear is not shown on the LCD display.
• Warranty is only 2 years - it should be 3 years, especially in view of the many negative comments on the Impulse 2 motor reliability in various cycling forums.
• No delivery options available on pedal type.
• Inconsistencies in the advertised description:
• “Description” section refers to suspension - but the front forks are solid.
• “Description” states front light is 80 lux, but “Technical Specs” says 30 lux.

My final comment is more of a question, as I would like to know why an eBike has to be built like a tank. OK, the motor is generating more power to the bottom bracket than most recreational cyclists, but club cyclists and professional cyclists generate a lot more power than an eBike within the frame of a lightweight machine. If you start with an 11kg touring machine, and add 6kg for motor and battery, you’re about 8 or 9 kg under the Beat Bike’s basic weight. That would make a big difference to range and off road manoeuvring.

Purchased the premium i360 harmony with the Nuvinci Harmony Transmission. Terrible. Do not believe all the hype. Although you can climb hills it takes an awful lot of effort and the enjoyable electric bike experience is lost. Go for the geared bikes - there is no comparison. The after sales service is very poor. It took over 14 weeks to get a definitive answer to a straight forward question and the problem has not been resolved. If you do not live near a retail outlet it is very inconvenient trying to return the cycle and although the staff are helpful and sympathetic I felt the management were only covering ' their own backs'. A well made very expensive bike which is not delivering all that is promised. Be very wary.

After a couple of years of serious health issues, I needed to get back into the saddle, after much research, I paid a visit to the shop. Fortunately, parking is brilliant, either in the shops yard behind the store, or there is an NCP just the other side of the road. The two chaps working on the day were brilliant, taking time to understand my concerns and recommending a bike that would be most suitable for my needs (sitting position). The engineer took the time to speak with my wife whilst I was on a test drive to keep her occupied, which was appreciated. I decided on the purchase, fortunately there was an ex-demo I could take away on the day (after safety checks). Overall, this was a 5 star treatment, again, they really took time to listen to me an made the perfect recommendations, I will definitely be back. The bike is ace too!

Really good advice and service from 50cycles Bristol. A medical condition and age prevented me from enjoying cycling as i used to, but finding 50cycles Electric Bikes and purchasing the Pro Connect 9G has brought back the fun and freedom of biking. I was able to test drive the bike on a cycle track to see if it suited me before deciding to buy. Would definitely recommend the bike and 50cycles at Bristol.
