This weekend visiting cadets completed the ground element of the blue and bronze aviation training packages with some earning their blue or bronze wings. Well done!!
637VGS staff also had a chance to learn new skills in aircraft servicing. Congratulations to all who took part and passed the assessment!

Winch launching is now our staple method of getting in the air at Royal Air Force Little Rissington. This is the view from the winch end of the operation, with a weak link break during the launch. Depending on the runway and wind conditions, we can get launch heights from between 800 feet to 2000 feet above airfield ground level.

A busy weekend across the UK with air shows and air displays. Back at home, our first graded Pilot achieved his type conversion solo. The next step is his supervisory check with the Royal Air Force Central Gliding School and then onto his re-grading workup.

From high up above Royal Air Force Little Rissington, the grass runways can be seen beginning to emerge. A substantial amount of work has been carried out to the grass in order to achieve this.

This weekend, we successfully flew off our first grass runway! Runway 09 (our easterly run) is seldom used, but today gave us the best operating conditions. Additionally, our Staff received the all important ADR Training to allow us to drive vehicles carrying fuel for the winches.

Truly amazing weekend! Some 56 launches achieved with thermal soaring above the Cotswolds, as we stand up again with 621 Volunteer Gliding Squadron alongside us. This also marks the first winch launched flying operations carried out at Royal Air Force Little Rissington since the 1980s.
