A Mind To Teach

Even though most teachers would say that the quality of the teacher–pupil relationship is at the centre of learning, teachers receive very little training relating to personality development, the emotional aspects of teaching and learning, or the management of teacher–pupil relationships. I set up A Mind to Teach in response to this vacuum. A Mind to Teach is the result of 20 years of State Secondary School classroom experience which was often challenging, and 6 years psychodynamic psychology training at London's Tavistock Clinic. The Foundation Training offers teachers 5 insights from psychology that helps teacher manage themselves and their learners compassionately and effectively. 1 / Every learner shows up to your classroom with innate physiological and psychological survival needs. Learn hat these needs are and steps to satisfy them in every lesson you plan. 2 / Learning is an anxiety provoking endeavour. Learn what happens to us and our students when anxiety levels are too high and what steps to take to keep learning on track. 3 / Children are 'Wired to Learn': Learn about the way children are 'wired to learn' and how to take steps to get out of the way of this natural instinct. 4 / Defences can feel Like Attacks: Helping the few who need more attention. Some student's behaviour can be baffling and sometimes seem out of proportion to what is being demanded of them. Learn why some of their defences can feel like attacks and how to respond rather than react to them. 5 / Your Autobiography Makes a Difference: Learn how your own autobiography both helps and maybe hinders your teaching style and levels of success.
