Aadya Nrityalay Description
Hello All,
This is my world, this is what I am best at, this is my dream. Bharatnatyam Dance Style.
With over twenty years of learning and teaching experience, I am yet again here to teach this beautiful dance style to people of all ages.
Having learnt from my first guru Anuradha Lokapur in Pune for about seven-eight years, I performed my Arangetram [debut of a Bharatnatyam Dance Student with the blessing from his /her Guru] in 1997. This was a full on three hours live performance testing my abilities to the core.
I then went on to study a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Mumbai's Nalanda Nritya Kala Mahavidyalaya [one of the elite Dance Schools in India even to this date] which was a Three Years Full Time course. I acquired this degree in the summer of 2001. While here, I began teaching dance in the evenings to other students.
After returning to Pune, my home town I took up a job as Dance /Music Teacher first at Sanjeevan Vidyalaya in the stunning town of Pachgani and then at Sinhgad Spring Dale School in Pune.
Arriving in the UK in 2003, I soon got an opportunity with the Indian Community Association in Reading to teach dance. While here, I also performed at Asian Arts Week hosted by Reading Borough Council for three consecutive years. I taught at the Association for three years before temporarily retiring for my maternity duties!
And now I'm back starting Aadya Nrityalay. I hope to see as many of you as possible learning with me this age old and expressive dance style.
