How should I clean my child's teeth?
Cleaning your child's teeth should be part of their daily hygiene routine. You may find it easier to stand or sit behind your child, cradling their chin in your hand so you can reach their top and bottom teeth more easily.
When the first teeth start to appear, try using a toothbrush designed for children, with a small smear of fluoride toothpaste.
... It is important to supervise your child's brushing until they are at least seven.
Once all the teeth have appeared, use a toothbrush with a small head and soft bristles in small, circular movements and try to concentrate on one section at a time.
Don't forget to brush gently behind the teeth and onto the gums.
Spit out after brushing and do not rinse, so that the fluoride stays on your teeth longer. If possible, make brushing a routine - just before your child goes to bed and at least one other time during the day.
Remember to encourage your child, as praise will often get results!

Some helpful tips on how to manage toothache at home whilst the practice is temporarily closed 🦷

User

Hi everyone,
I’m Desrin one of the dental hygiene therapists at abbey house dental and implant centre Firstly I would like say that I hope that all of our patients and their families are keeping well and staying safe during this time
... We all really regret that we have had to step away from caring for our patients But in light of the recent coronavirus pandemic it is the best option for everyone.
With routine dental care being suspended for the time being, it is more important now than ever to take control of your oral health and to do as much as you can to prevent tooth and gum problems from occurring.
It is advisable to brush your teeth every night time and at one other time during the day. Also use your floss and/or interdental brushes at least once per day. Bleeding gums indicate gum inflammation so it is important to clean very thoroughly especially if you have areas that bleed upon cleaning. It may be tempting to snack on sugary foods or drinks especially if you are stuck in the house. But each time you do this will lead to acid attacking the teeth for 60 minutes and potentially cause irreversible problems.
We always advise our patients to cut down and consider quitting smoking, and we would advise this now more than ever.
We are still here for you and we are happy for you to get in contact with us by telephone or email should you have a dental problem and need our help.
We hope that you all stay well and we hope to see you again once things are safer.

To all our invisalign patients
Due to the unprecedented affects of COVID-19, all dental treatments are being placed on hold except emergency dental care.
This unfortunately also includes invisalign treatments. As a result all invisalign treatments will be placed on hold until further guidance from the health authorities. Please understand the reasons for the guidance is for patient and staff safety to limit the spread of the virus.
... We’re genuinely sorry for the inconvenience caused.
For patients who have finished their current aligners and have no more to wear or are awaiting to collect further aligners- we ask you wear the final aligner as a retainer until we can resume appointments.
If you have any pain, discomfort or any aligner issues please contact the invisalign team on 07376355863 or email stacey@abbeyhousedental.co.uk
We will try and contact each one of our invisalign patients individually over the next coming days.
We are experiencing a high level of calls at the moment so If you have any concerns please don’t hesitate to contact us via email or WhatsApp messages.
We will aim to keep our patients updated with the latest changes and advice as soon as possible through social media and emails.

To our Patients and Friends of Abbey House Dental, our team have been working tireless to keep Abbey House Dental a clean and safe environment for you. As a Dental Practice, we work in environment where the prevention of the spread of a whole range of infections is wove into everything we do. In addition to our usual scrupulous cross infection control measures, we have been paying particularly close attention to all government guidance and updates related more specifically to... Coronavirus. Given the unprecedented situation in the UK regarding the rapidly spreading COVID-19, we feel we must use our own clinical judgement and act in the best interests of our patients and staff. We feel it is essential that we do our part to reduce the spread of this virus, and so, it is with very heavy hearts, that based on the national guidance given to us we have taken the decision to follow this guidance and temporary close the practice until we receive further guidance from our regulatory bodies and NHS England that is it safe for us to reopen. We will still be open and will be available as a priority for urgent dental emergencies for now for a few hours per day only. Looking after the health of our patients is our absolute priority and so we will be operating an emergency telephone consultation service for our patients who have urgent pain or swelling during this period of closure. If you urgently need assistance, please call us on 01785 818 037. As a team, we are doing everything we possibly can to remain fit, well and able to work so that we can continue our usual high standard of dental care for you when we return. Thank you for your support, and stay safe, The Team at Abbey House Dental Practice

As advice and guidance is rapidly changing, we would like to update all our patients with the ongoing Covid-19 situation and how this will affect your ongoing care at the practice for the foreseeable future. We would like to thank you all for your continued support of our practice during these uncertain times. The Chief Dental Officer in conjunction with the British Dental Association, NHS England and the General Dental Council have released guidance for how we manage treatin...g patients going forward in order to reduce the spread of the virus and protect our patients and staff. Consequently, dental practices will no longer be able to carry out aerosol producing procedures including hygiene appointments, routine fillings, orthodontic bonding and debonding, elective root canal treatments. We have also been advised to postpone examinations of people in the β€˜at risk’ groups (such as but not limited to; over 70’s and patients with diabetes, underlying heart complaints and respiratory illnesses) We will still be open and will be available as a priority for dental emergencies. We will also continue with routine examinations, denture appointments and any urgent treatments. Please be rest assured that our practice hygiene policies will the strictly adhered to with extra measures in place to ensure safety of you and our team. We will have a limited number of staff during this period, but we will have clinicians on standby should the demand for dental care increase. We are genuinely sorry for the inconvenience this will cause for many of you and we thank you whole heartedly for your understanding and support as we play our role in keeping our communities safe.
With Kindest Regards, Dr Amit Jilka Clinical Director of Abbey House Dental
